Hey All,

I want to send a mass e-mail to everyone at my company(4000 people), except I do not want anyone to know who I am. I have the master e-mail list, where you just enter in one addy and it goes to everyone, but I am not sure if you can use it outside of the intranet. I know with Netscape, you can choose your identity pretty easily, but I am pretty sure that would not work.

I just want to tell everyone to turn off their printers when they go home, to save energy. Sounds cheezy I know, but if everyone in Cali did it, we could save a lot of electricity help put an end to the blackouts. BUT, from my role as a scrub at the company, it is a pretty weird thing to do, so I don't want anyone to know who I am.

Any suggestions?

Well I don't think anyone will pay attention to an anonymous email. The master list might work outside the intranet if the email address off a list server or something (has @blahblahblah)

I admire your effort in saving energy. I think the best way is to contact whoever sends email about company news and ask them to send out an email or contact some higher ups about it. Also you can have the janatoirs or security turn them off while running thier shift.

Heh, honorable notion, but if you're looking for suggestions, I'd suggest not doing it. Anonymous e-mail is rarely anonymous, and I reckon sending 4,000 e-mails would highly displease your IT staff.

Instead try putting up flyers at printer stations or bring it up at staff meetings. This just seems like the wrong way to go about doing something like this.

1. The "[email protected]" and related mailing lists are actually tightly controlled. Normally only the President's admin, or HR Director or someone like that can email to the address. That is why when another exec wants to mass-mail it actually comes from this other person.

2. These mail lists do NOT accept mail from external or unidentifiable sources. (Otherwise, some spammer could mail the entire company with no recourse)

3. I am sure your company has an email policy and this would violate it.

4. Not to identify you as unintelligent, but generally, there have already been discussions about various things such as you suggest and likely good reasons why they are not implemented. Broadcasting your message will both expose you to public flames (perhaps even involving facts that you were unaware) as well as stepping on the toes of others who might be more directly responsible for this.

5. No need to make waves at a time when every company is looking to cut staff.
