I just signed up with http://www.bigredwire.com who has no minimum usage requirements and no service charges. You will be billed a minimum of like $3.60 any month in which you make at least one long distance call. But if you don't use it you wont be charged anything, unlike ATT whos minimum SERVICE charge is like $5 whether or not you even make any calls. MCI I think is like $4.95 whether or not you make any calls. It takes 1.5 minute to sign up. Rates for me were like .04 a minute, you can see what they are for your area at their site.

1. Their website is presently down
2. Onesuite.com (which is also pre-paid) is a better deal. It is 2.9c and if you register your home number and put the 800# on speed dial, it is essential direct dial. Also onesuite gives you free (or $1 if less than $20 use/month) fax and email receiving.

ya, http://www.bigzoo.com is $.04 and no other charges. They have a 800 number. speed dail the 800 # and your pin and you have a very cheap and convient dial around service.

Americom is a better deal than bigredwire for anything under 240 minutes of long distance a month (5.5 cents/min, no minimum fee). Plus, they don't screw you with intralata charges like bigredwire does (5 cents/min where I live)-- Americom lets you keep your local provider for intralata calls.

Did I miss something?
How is $0.04 a better deal than $0.029 ?
If they bill through your phone bill, then you have all the phone taxes to consider as well.
Onesuite, the 0.029 service already has the taxes built in.
As far as it being down, for some reason, this is unreachable for me. (I used a proxy to check it out and that makes it work, but I don't know why it seems to be the only site I can't reach)

I thought i remember somebody posting something about BRW being 4c/min(or whatever the cost) for ALL calls, both local AND long distance.

ya, you're right INeedAVacation. it's been a while. I forgot about the monthly charge.
Can someone show me where I said that bigzoo.com was better? Please...
I wish people would read what I write(and think about it) before they comment on it...

I think to TheLoneGunman (and most of the rest of us) it was implied that bigzoo was a better service since you mentioned it after a few other good deals were posted. If you didn't think it was better than the services already posted then why would you post it??
I think we all appreciate the contribution to this deal even though I think some of the other deals mentioned are better. It is not a bad thing to have information/choices of other services.

I don't get it. What's wrong with onesuite.com? It's a great service for $0.029 per minute. That's 2.9c per minute for those of you bad in math. No hidden charges. That's it. You get 1800 number, and don't even have to remember ur pin if calling from home. You can even give pins to ur friends and see who they've been calling. You can set up ur friends phone's so they don't have to enter a pin either. The connection is great 90% of the time, and the other 10% the other side couldn't hear me too well... But oh well... I was calling US to China, for only 14c per minute (5.5 if ur calling Hong Kong). When I was talking, it was like talking to my neighbor, that's how clear it was.
Yes it's prepaid, and you gotta put in $10, but otherwise it's a great deal. No connection fees, no monthly charges. You make a 1 minute call US to US, you get charged 2.9c. Period. Unless you call from a payphone, then there's a surcharge. But otherwise it's great. You won't find a better deal. Even if you find a cheaper deal on a phonecard... It's busy half the time, and they charge connection fees. Read the fine print. Once we got a phone card for $10. Made one call to a wrong # for 1 min, made another call which didn't connect. Total left on the card, $5. How it happend, I don't know, but that must've been one hell of a connection charge.

Alas, I forget some people find it difficult to read between the lines. I try to spend as little time as possible on posts because I have better things to do with my time... The down fall to that is that I have to rely on the people reading the posts to make the connections themselves. Sorry if I confussed anyone.
Here we go.
I stated that bigzoo was $.04/min directly following a post that recommended a service that was almost identical. i.e. both are prepaid; both have an 800 access #; both have some sort of PIN and no, or almost no in bigzoo's case, additional charges. Thus implying that since the services were very similar, and furthermore that bigzoo was a good service since I bothered to mention them, and the one mentioned above was cheaper that the one mentioned above was indeed a good deal.

Im just thinking of the big anime looking hacker characters that showed up on bigzoo's main page a couple months ago. Somehow I doubt that they fixed the problem.

james, your personality sucks. I said, "I think we all appreciate the contribution to this deal even though I think some of the other deals mentioned are better. It is not a bad thing to have information/choices of other services" because we all DO appreciate everyone's positive/constructive contributions.
when you begin saying things to the effect that we are all stupid for not, "reading between the lines" and that we are all "confused" by your posts that's very rude of you and not needed.
again, THANK YOU for the info about the long distance service. I am sure everyone can compare the various services and decide for themselves which one they may switch to. I, for one, really hate pre-paying for stuff and I really dislike service charges especially if I will have them regardless if I use the service or not so I will probably not use the service you mentioned but others may since the rates are lower and they may use the service often enough to make it a good deal for them.
by the way, you are merely a little, "Lieutenant Junior Grade" whereas I am a "Lieutenant COMMANDER" so you must bow down and worship me and agree to everything I say. (I knew these ranks would come in handy sometime)
