If any of you got in on the Maxtor/CompUSA rebate last March, call and check on your rebate status now!
This is the $50 rebate for buying the Maxtor drive and ATA/100 PCI adapter.
I just called the toll-free number on the rebate coupon (888-241-6208) and was told that my information was received and validated, but for some reason the check was not sent out. She said they would send the check immediately and I would receive it within 15 days.
Now what I found strange was that she was obviously reading from a script. You'd think that "missing" one check would not require a scripted response. I think they are withholding some checks until the recipient calls to inquire.
I for one don't think that "immediately" and "within 15 days" are synonymous, but nevermind... ;)

LIke he said, She said "They they would send the check immediately and I would receive it within 15 days."
They will send the check ASAP and you will receive it within 15 days... They can't control the postoffice, so they gotta give you a long date.

If you haven't received your rebate check yet for the Maxtor ATA/100 PCI Controller card, I would suggest you call this number. It's been 3 months and I haven't received my rebate. So I call to investigate and the CS rep says, "your rebate is now validated, and we will mail you a check within 15 days". What's up with that? If I didn't keep records and remember to call, they would've "forgotten" to mail my check?
I agree with kb0wwp, I believe they are withholding checks until you call to complain.
Oh, and by the way, the CS rep was real clear. They will be mailing the check in "postcard" format. Meaning that if I'm not careful, I'm obviously going to throw the check out with the multitude of junk mail I receive daily. (Yet another scam and possible way for the rebate company to keep my cash.)
You would think that a reputable company like Maxtor would've chosen a more reputable rebate processing company.
Good luck.

Isn't this on the verge of breaking the law.. where they don't send the checks until you call even though it never said in the rebate that you had to call to actually get your check sent in the mail?
Sounds a little fishy to me.. and with Seagate having some nice new drives out, if I ever buy another hard drive (still have 4 40gig maxtors 50% full and a ton of cdrs left) I won't be buying Maxtor...

Not that this is on the deal topic, but you would buy a Seagate over Maxtor??? (I wish I could post a larger question mark)

Yes, it is crappy, but the rebate coupon clearly states: "If you have not received your rebate after 8 weeks, please call 888-241-6208." They could argue that this is a requirement to receive the rebate.
This is not the first time this has happened to me. On a rebate a few years ago, I actually has one CS rep say: "Now that you have called, we can send your rebate check..."

you all need to check out this Rebate Tracking program.
http://www.rebate-rebate.com
I use it religiously to avoid these exact problems. It alerts you when a rebate becomes over due and has all the information you entered originally so you can call and complain if you need to.
It used to be shareware, but when I paid my $15 I received a wonderfully nice email back saying, "it's freeware now and gave me my $15 back!"

Bump.
Just a reminder, remember to call the 888 number listed at the beginning of the post.
I just received my $50 check over three weeks after I called (they promised 15 days). And that's in addition to the THREE MONTHS I originally waited.
Don't let the rebate company keep a check that's owed to you!
One thing they promised was true - it arrived on a flimsy piece of paper that looked like junk mail. Check your incoming mail carefully.
Good luck.
