it's not. My hub had his cell with verizon and they totally screwed him on his bill. He has to make ALOT of long distance calls across the country on a weekly basis..sometimes he does it off his cell, sometimes not..Verizon had the nerve to have their HIGH TOLL department call to find out if he was indeed making these calls..their excuse was, they wanted to make sure no one stole his phone. I think its total bullshit and an invasion of privacy. If he wanted to call the friggin queen of england, that is none of Verizons business as long as his bill is paid in full (and it always is..and its ALWAYS paid long before it's due)..Instead they overcharged him for the calls he made 4 different times. And when he tried to fight the charges they pretty much blew him off. He got so sick and tired of VERIZON that he switched his entire CELL over to calling cards and now deals with the AT AND T guy at the booth in the mall. It's working out AMAZINGLY well. PLUS he always knows how much time he has left on the phone. TRUST Me..ITS NOT worth the hassle of dealing with VERIZON..but fyi-MCI IS EVEN WORSE.
hope this helps.

I've actually never had a problem with Verizon. One minute hold times, friendly customer support, Replace phones on demand, Instant bill correction. But, then again, i use Verizon Southern California which used to be Airtouch (rated one of the best in the US) vs. that of Verizon New York which used to be Bell Atlantic.

They call to see whenever there is activity that is picked up by tracking software as "unusual". It's the same principle for fraud protection for credit card, so I don't really mind it. I call about 1000 minutes/month, quite a bit long distance, and never have had that happen to me.

Either way, coverage is important.
