Open an account with $6 at CitiFi with the code C7 and get $100 free!
This promotion originally expired February 29, 2000 however CitiFi has extended it for an extra 2 months. You can call CS at CitiFi to confirm (which is always a good idea):

1) Go to http://www.citifi.com/
2) Select open account
3) Select apply online
4) Basic checking (has lowest monthly fees and only requires $1 to open acct)
5) Special offer code: C7

The rest is rather self explanatory, remember to do this TODAY it must be postmarked on or before Friday, April 28th. They do not have to receive it before Friday, April 28th but it has to be post marked before then.

1)What does it cost?
It costs you $6.33 ($6 opening balance, 33 cents stamp), they hold onto your $6 for up to 60 days.

2) How long until I receive the $100 promotional deposit into my CitiFi acct?
Officially they say it could take up to 60 days to have your promotional $100 credited into your account. (The person who wrote me with this said that CitiFi deposited the $100 into their account the day after they cashed the opening deposit check)

3) How much of a beginning deposit should I make and why? $6 because it could take up to 60 days to get your $100. So $6 would cover 2
months of basic checking monthly fees.

No there is no 3 month, 6 month, 9 month or even 12 month minimum period to keep the account open.

I plan on closing this one as soon as they deposit my free $100.

More free baby money for the summer!

Looks like there's a similar deal going on through Gomez. Check it out at http://www.gomez.com/deals/profile.cfm?topcat_id=1&product_id=50000213&r=4

Haven't gone through the application yet myself, so I'm not too sure what it involves. Whoever goes through the whole process first, please post more info!

I did this. It worked like a charm. Got paid like the day after they recieved my check. You must send a check to be able to use the $1 min. But send them like 6, to cover 2 months worth of fees.

Great Deal, but thats alot of personal info. Sounds like they want to bang on your credit report and see if they can drown you with loan offers and such

Sucks, that cififi 100$ deal really sucks!
I took this chance and deposit $100 one month ago. But today they give the letter:

"Thank you for the $100 deposit, we have opened an non-promotion acccout. However, you are not qualified for $100 promotion. To be qualified for the offer, you must deposit $500 in your basic checking account...."

That is the way they do business. They posted promotion code outside and attract you to fill up the application. Then open the account, finish the business and tell you that you are kicked off the promotion.

Is it fraud???

You have to send them a CHECK to qualify for the $1 deposit. You probably paid by credit card. I dunno... I didn't actually get in on the deal (I think that was one of the labor scare days.) I know it worked for several people though. Did you use the promo code? If you did this a month ago, it might not be the same thing.

Maggie

P.S. Thanks guys! Glad you could use it.

All the personal info they ask is standard for bank accounts (at least all I've ever opened) -- may even be required by law...

I've found this is actually a good bank to use, and am in the process of switching from a normal Citibank account to Citi/fi. The interest rates are very good (5% or so versus the 2.5% I get with Citibank for an Insured Money Market Account). Being in NYC, I have access to hundreds of Citicorp ATMs, plus I can use non-Citi ATMs six times a month. The minimum balance to avoid monthly fees is a reasonable $1000 (or is it $2000 -- either way better than the $6K Citibank wants). Almost all my deposit activity is direct deposit -- for the few paper checks I do get (rebates usually http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif) they give you postage-paid envelopes to send in to New Jersey (takes 2-3 days to see it credited).

P.S. In case you were wondering, I don't work for Citicorp...

Hi all.. my 2 cents on this promo..

I mailed in my app on the 4/25 i think (deadline of 4/28).. I told a friend of mine about it and he did it too.. Then my friend said on 5/2 that he called up and citifi told him that the promo ended on 4/26 and if they received the money after that date they would send it back. I called up a couple days ago asking about this and they told me that the C7 promotion expired on 4/26 (i don't know what happened to the deadline of 4/28 previously stated). Anyways I asked them to change the promo code on my application to CE (supposedly expires in a couple months from now). They said that I did qualify for the free $100 under the CE promotion. I asked what would happen to my $6 check that I mailed in and they said they would deposit it in my account. Now I'm afraid to check my mail because I've heard a couple people got their checks returned. Oh well I guess I'm gonna go check my mail (Saturday's mail that is) and if I got a returned check I'll call them up and see whats going on.

I would suggest calling in and changing the promo code on your application to CE. If I get a reject notice in the mail I'm going to try to apply again using CE.

Bastards!!!!!

I got my rejection notice in the mail (I just checked Saturdays mail). I immediately called Citifi at 1-800-224-8434 and quickly found out that they have no application in their system for me (even though they know my SSN, mothers maiden name, and first elementary school).

I told them I want to apply over the phone for promotion CE.

Promotion CE will deposit $100 into your account once you fund an account with the minimum required (for a Basic Checking it is $1). I was told that promo CE will end at the end of the month (they will probably pull it early). The Basic Checking has a fee of $3 a month as stated at the beginning of this thread I believe.

I just now applied for a Basic Checking account over the PHONE using Promo Code 'CE'. They said I would receive a packet in the mail in 3-5 days. Then I will have to sign something and mail in my initial deposit check of $6. After that my account should be open in 5-10 days. Make sure to ask for an application # so that you can track what is going on. (Weird thing is that they said my previous application # turned up nothing.. liars)

Hope this helps,
Kar

Got my Citi f/i applications in the mail today... Explicitly telling me that the C7 promotion had expired 2/28. That if I wanted to open an account with $500 they would still honor it. Even returned my $9 check.

If the person who called Citi f/i for confirmation could post their phone conversation notes, i.e. basically, who said that the promotion was extended, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Hydrox

Hey wuzfong and anyone else who gets scammed by citifi liars. I was reading your post so I called the citifi CSR and they just told me I didnt qualify for there CE promo but someone would be getting a hold of me about some other offer. I would guess it that 500.00 to open a checking and get the promo offer. Better known as bait and switch. For those who it worked for using the C7 or CE promo code, congrats. For those who got f.... by these a.. holes hope they get sued just like sears did for there scams. My credit is excellent and my roomates is better than mine and there is no way we would not qualify for a chicken sh...t
basic checking account.

I feel better now,

Yeah the CSRs will just try to sell you on the deposit $500, get $100 deal. I don't know why they told you that you couldn't do promo CE. I hope I get something in the mail in the next few days..

I tried the CM code (free Palm IIIe) and gave them $1100 for a 6 month CD (NexTag been berry, berry good to me http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif )

Never heard anything from Citi yet, and they haven't yet taken my money.

word is that they wanted to switch the CD component to a 1 year, but haven't been told anything official. I wonder what the threat of telling them to give me back my money would do (since the $1100 is much more than the $1 or even $100 others are putting in)

hey, just because some of us (ME ME ME ME ME!) can't always afford to drop that kind of money, but...well...i didn't really have any other point. I was just mentioning my college non-loadedness (just give me a few years and i'll hire bill gates as my janitor).

I also tried the $100 promotion c7 but had my check returned. My check to them was postmarked on the 28th and returned from them on their letterhead dated 5/2. My credit is PERFECT and what they said in return to me is that I could reapply for their current promotion $100 after a $500 deposit for I believe 90 days. I guess I cant really complain though, I'm looking forward to $375 when I cancel my 5 accounts opened at Gomez.com. I will more than likely end up keeping one of the accounts. It's working out like an honest trial for me... if you can believe that one.
