I bet you can modify the code further, but I can't vouch for the results.
It will set a no-popup cookie for those ads, but once you clear your cookies you need to reset it.

OoOoo niiice thanx Gunman =) is this like a trial thing?

No, its not a trial. It's just that they set the expiration date for the cookie to 30 days. going back to that page every month is a small price to pay to get rid of those damn pop-up spy cam ads. They're everywhere!
This is probably off topic, but I'm glad you put it here, 'cause I probably would have missed it if it was in a diffrent forum.
Thanks

You're the best, Gunman! I hate those stupid ads. I'm sure lots of people will appreciate your post.

Like I suggested, I bet you could change the "30" to "180" and only go back twice a year, but I can't guarantee that it won't break it.
I think I speak for everyone here when I say -
YESSSSSSSS!
Thanks TLG!

Where do these ads pop up? I have an adblocker, but reading this thread I'm kinda curious.
btw: I love X-10. The DVD Super-remote is the A-bomb.

wait.. so how did this whole x10 thing started out anyway? I mean, how did they start popping up in our computers.. I went to MSN.com the other day and it popped up so I thought to myself "how much are those x10 fellows paying MSN for their popup?"
Just curious.. thanks GunMan for the tip.

Some of those pop-ups might be a result of some spyware that may be on your system. If you're interested, go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com/index.html They have a program called Ad Aware. It'll scan your comp for known spyware and allow you to delete it if you want. It's pretty cool and free.

"Popup Killer" wouldn't work on my system (probably because of the proxy even though I set it to recognize the proxy). I use "Pop-Up Stopper" from Panicware (www.panicware.com). This program is by far much easier to configure and use! I'd recomend it over resetting the X-10 cookie.
Here's a good article by Stefanie Olsen on this very subject: http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1005-200-6269719.html?tag=cd_pr
Funny though, this article is from a web site that pioneered the use of the new, large, flash ads that are right in the middle of the article. Now, if only we could get rid of those...

Is that the best they can do? OK, it's a start, but it's a pretty pathetic one.
Put it this way - if you want to disable the x10 ads, then it's fairly certain that you're fully aware of 'em (otherwise you wouldn't be looking to disable them specifically). In that case, why not offer a cookie that blocks the popups indefinitely?
Hell, even cometcursor was capable of doing *that*.

The X-10 popups started again, I reran the program, but still they come.

notice, they have their last shot in 30 days to get you, so they have a little sales pitch on that link

What if you just modified the url? Like this:
http://www.x10.com/home/optout.cgi?DAY=100&PAGE=http://www.x10.com/x10ads1.htm
Would that set the cookie for 100 days? I would think it would. The 30 number on the confirmation page is static. I'm going to try the 100 day version of the url.

AWESOME
The first time I ran Ad aware by Lavasoft it found 89 spyware items...
I am also beginning to dislike X10. I was going to order another camera but every time I see the ad I keep putting it off.

But where do these ads come from? They pop up all the time in their uniquely sized windows, regardless of the site I'm on, and on a clean system... no spyware here. I don't understand how they can be so omnipresent and... yeah. It's frightening.

It was just another marketing ploy by X-10 to put out the 30 day stop program and it worked, it brought them a lot of attention, These X-10 popups are annoying and so far, nothing gets rid of them. I used the program "Popup-Stopper" but that blocked things I wanted so I stopped that program. Where are they embedding their program? Anyone have luck getting rid of their popups?

I never got any of those pop up windows, but downloaded that Ad Aware anyway to see what it would find. It said it found 29 items and I supposedly deleted them.
NOW I get a pop up window every 10 minutes!!! WTF????
I am cursed, I think Ad Aware has screwed me!!!! Anyone else get this effect?

The X-10 thing works (and you can increase the day count to make it last longer)
The window will still load, but as soon as it loads, if it reads the cookie, the popup will disappear
Obviously this only works for X-10 and not for other places

Has anyone recommended a program that stops windows from popping up? If not, i recommend "pop-up stopper." just go to download.com and get it. It works not only for x-10 ads but any other kinds of pop-up windows.
