Get the Toshiba sd1600. Amazing player for way under $200. Should be just as good, if not better than most players in your price range.

Yep, SD1600 gets my vote too. Probably the best player in the $200-$250 retail zone. But can be had for around $160 or less.

How are those apex dvd players? Some of them can play mp3's.

I was doing some research on Apex machines too. I've only read bad reviews. By settling for an Apex, you will be sacrificing video and audio quality for a little MP3 action --> not worth it I think. You best bet is to go with a major brand name within the DVD industry(Toshiba). Hey, didn't they invent the DVD??

I have an APEX dvd player and it is terriffic. From what i hear, APEX has bad quality control, so i fyou got a crappy unit, you can return it and get a new one, and that will hopefully be better. I got lucky and got a good unit. Works grat with my sony trinitron xbr, and my panasonic stereo. only downside is that you need a dolby decoder to get hte 5.1 channel surround sound on most models. if anyone knowsof a cheap decoder, reply to the thread i started about it in this forum.
edit: i have the apex ad-500w. It does vcd/svcd/mp3/dvd. it also has a 4x zoom feature, as well as 8x FF and REW.
