View Full Version : Unexpected Restarts
My computer has a problem where it restarts spontaneously while i am using it. At first I thought it might be a power supply problem, since the restarts were random. I tried using another one that i knew worked, but that didn't fix the problem. So now, I think the problem might be my CPU overheating. I have a 1 GHz AMD Thunderbird, and a chrome orb fan, but i think i might need something larger. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I had the same problem once, it was related to CPU heat, but it wasn't the CPU. The motherboard was overheating. If you are using an "inexpensive" board, you might consider trying a different one.
But better cooling (case and cpu) might solve your problem reguardless of the source.
I think it might be the fan though. My motherboard is the asus a7v, so not too cheap. Thanks for the advice though

This can be hard to figure out too. It can be any number of different problems. Including problems with your OS... it can be a real headache. But try the simple things first... removing all but the essentials. If you suspect overheating, did you physically feel the heat sink with your finger? Can you monitor the cpu temp or case air temp in the bios? (or waterfall system monitor)
Try different ram. I know it sounds like a lot of BS but you need to set a baseline.
