View Full Version : Which RAM to use?
Hi, I have a generic PIII 450MHz PC that I bought in Fall 1999. I currently have 128MB SDRAM....I plan to upgrade my RAM, however, I do not know what kind of RAM to buy. The company I bought the computer from, didn't give me any computer (motherboard) manuals to refer to.
I'm confused about my motherboard supporting PC133 or PC 150, and what ECC SDRAM is for, and whether my motherboard is new enough for PC2100 DDRAM, and difference between 168 pin and 184 pin, and so on. Is there any way to check?
excuse my ignorance....being a computer user since 1992, I've lost my memory since my entrance to college.
yeah, go with what you have
128 pc133 is only 17 bucks down at a local parts store
get it while its cheap, we dont want another eathquake in taiwain to raise prices to 120 for that very same stick!
Kami
a7a 266 Athlon 1 Ghz
512 pc2100
60 gig IBM deskstar
sb live! platinum
and my lowely TNT2 based viper 770 ultra
hahah...thanks alot...i plan on getting 512MB of ram for 60 bucks
I like crucial memory. http://www.crucial.com/webpromo/
The cheap Accessmicro memory (made by Zeus Components) is problematic. It works for some people and not for others.

this may probably explain the spontaneous reboots on my computers computer after i got him 128 MB of ram
there are several good bands
corsair, micron, just so lond as it inst Zeus
watch out for the ultra value RAM

Hmmm your motherboard might not, actually probably doesn't support 512 megs of ram. you might be able to add 2 256 dimms but not one 512.
yup...that's what i planned....two 256 MB chips

ECC is (mostly!) for servers: It is a technoligy to correct
errors in memory. ECC RAM is way to expensive for personal use, and if you HAVE ECC RAM, shot the ECC off as it eats a little performance.
