The ending was definately Speilbergs. Kubrick wouldn't end it like that. He would have left it at the ice. I suspect it is in fact nothing like what Kubrick would have done. Speilberg a Kubric are at opposite ends of the spectum when it comes to the human condition. It is a tribute to Speilberg's skill that he was able to pull it off as well as he did. I had the feeling that I was watching a movie that was struggling to go into two different directions and had to settle for a third. It is a weird movie.

The length is a result of Speilberg trying to maintain Kubrick's vision while still inserting his own style into the movie. Something had to give. I suppose that having the movie a little long (2 1/2 hours) is better than not having it at all.
Overall it was a good movie.

the dystopia of A.I. is what happens when we wait too long to bring on the Future

I thought they were Aliens but it didn't make sence to be aliens.... makes much more sence as mecha =)

I disagree, they have to be aliens. They even said that they had been watching our world for countless millenia, if I remember right, but they got here to late to help anything. If they were mecha, then why would they say that the only thing left were these robots who had direct contact with the humans? If they were mecha too, they wouldnt classify him as a robot, but an earlier version of themselves.
