I recently bid on a pair of new sennheiser 580dsp's on ubid, and got them relatively cheap. imagine my disappointment when i got a refurbed item instead of the advertised new set. I wanna know if anyone else has had similar experiences like this with ubid and if this was a common thing? can we get back at ubid at all for this? thanx in advance

A few years ago, they were basically a venue for certain places. As a result, I was sent a radar jammer that clearly said it was illegal in California on the box, but no where in the listing.
uBid said I had to deal with the retailer. Jerks!

Not with Ubid itself, but a retailer that was selling through them.

I had purchased a 15" monitor for my Mom's comp. 8 weeks and several long distance phone calls later they finaly fessed up that they never had the monitor in stock and would not be getting one in any time soon. Although they had promised to credit my card they never did.

Finally had to take it up with my bank. Luckily, that did the trick.

So, the bottom line is, Ubid may be alright, but the crappy companies they are selling for may not be.

Caviat emptor. :dodgy:

I purchased a $1200 Infinity subwoofer from them for $600. It was DOA. However, before returning it, I opened it up and found that the power cord had just come unplugged on the inside, so I was happy about that. It has been rattling my walls now for about a year.

I think that the problem with Ubid is that they are basically a clearing house for discontinued and overstocked items that can't be sold elsewhere. Half of their products also seem to be referbished goods. I have heard of many dissatisfied customers, and I have heard of many people getting really decent deals. It is really hit or miss with them....I guess you unfortunatly got a miss :(

My advise would be to call them up and explain your situation if you are really upset with them....however, they don't have a reputation for great customer service. If they cannot send you a new item in return for the referbished one, then ask them to cut the price some. If that doesn't work, then you will just have to send it back or take it up with your credit card company.

Threaten them with lots of phrases like "bait and switch" and "false advertising." That should get you what you want.
