On July 4, 1776 representatives from all of the thirteen original colonies signed a letter to the British king. The Declaration of Independence established a new nation. Those representatives did not take the signing of the Declaration lightly. If the their efforts for independence were to fail, each would be killed as a traitor; however, their newly formed nation survived, and the democracy they established succeeds to this day.

For two-hundred and twenty-five years America has stood. The “great experiment in democracy” has stood, a shining beacon for the oppressed. For those many years America has brought freedom for those who had none. True, there have been mistakes, but our nation has learned, survived, and grown stronger.

In this day so commonly known for barbecues and fireworks, let us remember. Remember the founders who willingly risked their lives to lay the foundation of freedom from which our nation was born. Remember the men and women who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice to keep our nation safe. Remember the immigrants who came to America for opportunities for more, where they learned to love and adopt a new country as their own. Remember that future Americans will come, whether our sons and daughters to be or the immigrants who will find their way here. Remember that for the sakes of these future Americans freedom and democracy must be preserved.

Happy Fourth of July, and God Bless America!

I'll answer that for him, since he hardly visits the forums. He is a ROTC cadet, and in the National Guard. He holds the rank of PFC but will serve as platoon leader because he is a cadet. I know all this because he is my brother.
