Well the United States is 225 years old today and while most of us think of George Washington and the Liberty Bell and so forth on this day I look at it a whole lot deeper. Living here in south Texas I have meet many folks that have come from countries south of us who have risked everything to get here. When I asked why the usuall response was the choices that were offered here. The ability to succeed in life with a little hard work and no how that are not always avaialalbe in othere countries. This country offers so many opportunities that quite a few of us take advantage of some of us pass by and with a little hard work anything is possible. My grandparents, for example, were both raised during the depression and had very little. Neither one of them has a high school education but by never givng up they have put together a very succesful bussiness and will eventually retire without any worries.
Yes I know our system of Democracy isnt perfect and we are not the only ones that offer it but then again we are only 225 years old a relative newbie at this but anyone can become involved. Wether its at the local or national level someone sweeping the streets one day can be leading your city the next. Some of our greatest leaders come from humble beginnings only to lead this country to better things.
So the next time you get mad that something in the government doesnt fit right with you just remember that you have the right to speak out without any reprecusions. And ask yourself if its so screwed up why do thoudands try to get in everyday. Just my opion but I like it :)
