i have actually heard of censorship on license plates. maybe it's the populace that can't take a joke.

I think they do normally watch pretty closely what goes on personalized plates.

I'm actually suprised that the IH8GOP was allowed on a plate in the first place. I would have thought that was the type of thing that would have been weeded out.

Must have been 3 martini lunch day at the DMV!

I'd be pruty darned surprised if they censored IH8GOP. I mean, they let 68IOU1 through, according to hapoo!

I think they work mostly to take out foreign naughty words and to guard against something like C0CKMSTR getting through or something.

It is a REAL letter. It is part of a group (12 were reprinted) that were released to TheSmokingGun under the FOIA.

They also post a HUGE list of banned plates in NY (that show quite how creative people can get)
