My friend thinks that if I admit that I smoke to a large group of people, it will somehow make me quit. I'm not particularly interested in quitting, but I do this on her behalf. Actually, I do this so that she will release my cigarettes that she's taken from my car. She would like me to admit to a large group of people that I smoke 1-2 packs a week of Parliament Lights so that I may be judged and then be guilt-ridden into quitting. Anyway, judge away if it suits you (it will make her happy), I need a cigarette.

I think they only way anyone will quit something like that is if they actually want to. I am sure the only reason she if trying to force you to quit is because she cares about you, and that is the same reason that anyone you tell might lay a guilt trip on you. However, people need to realize that you can't help people like that. It is ok to educate someone so that they realize what they are doing is dangerous but once they know it is their decision. If they then want to quit you can support them but if not you have to respect that.
Just my 2 cents, and good luck if you decide it's what you want.

Smoke em if you got em! Have one for me, as an ex-smoker who at times wishes he had never quit. I will have been basically quit smoking for 2 years on the 23rd.
I have to admit, the only benefit to not smoking is more more money in my pocket and less stink on my clothes. I really enjoyed smoking, but I wasnt going to pay $4/pack...it just wasnt worth it to me. So when I had some oral surgery, and wasnt able to smoke for a while, I just gave it up. Out here in California it was relatively easy, but if I was back in Florida, it would have been impossible. Smoking while I drink was always one of my favorite activities.
Your friend probably only has your best interest in heart, but at the same time if I was still smoking, it would have annoyed the shit out of me.

Smoking.. Bleh. Nothing good comes of it unless you like Lung cancer, shorter life, yellow teeth, everything you own smelling like burnt plants.
Name ONE benefit, please.

My friend thinks that if I admit that I post on this site to a large group of people, it will somehow make me quit. I'm not particularly interested in quitting, but I do this on her behalf. Actually, I do this so that she will restore my posts she deleted. She would like me to admit to a large group of people that I type 4-5 posts a day on all the boards, including Off Topic so that I may be judged and then be guilt-ridden into quitting. Anyway, judge away if it suits you (it will make her happy), I need to post.

Hmmm - well I guess I must be missing something, but then again that wouldnt be anything new. Seemed like a logical conjecture at the time.

Hey Ben_Williams. Tell your female friend that taking a person's cigarettes won't stop them from smoking (this is coming from an ex-smoker). All it does is waste four bucks. If she really wants to help you quit smoking, she should just tie you down to your bed and not let you go buy some more. It'll still be a little annoying, but somehow, I don't think you'll mind as much (at least I wouldn't if I were you). :D

My b/f stopped smoking once I told him that the smell of smoke made me nauseous. Once he realized that he can't smoke around me he stopped and he also realizes that smoking doesn't help when you want to work out

It allows those addicted to nicotene to get up in the morning and face the day (and whatever ugly realities come with it).

Ben has admitted some time ago that he "bats from the other side of the plate," if you catch my drift.
Ben, she's not taking your ciggys away out of concern for you. She's just trying to cope with her fears through an exertion of power ("If I can control my friend's behavior, they will stay happy and healthy and MY FRIENDS forever!" Or so the logic goes.) She probably thinks this is for your benefit, and maybe really believes she has your best interests at heart. But I say you should admonish her to grow up and face the fact that her friends have the right to make their own decisions, and give you back your ciggys.
