What are the best 5.1 or 4.1 Speakers

I'm looking to spend at least $150, at most $350

I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, and Altec-Lansing ADA 885 4.1 Speakers.


But I'm looking to upgrade from the ADA 885s. Could probably trade them in for more than I bought them, then get myself a heavy hitting free agent.

I would look at Klipsch, Videologic or Midiland speakers.

Push that expense acount up a notch. The new Promedia 5.1 system from Klipsch should be out within the month. They will be $399. They will kick-ass. They will be in my room ASAP. :D

the Klipsch Promedia 4.1 and 5.1 definitely :)

By all means the Klipsch promedia's, pick any of their flavors and you'll come out with a winner. For a 5.1 thats a tad better than the Klipsch's for movies, check out the video logic's, but I believe they go for around $500 or so. Klipsch overall is the better bang for your buck.

How come you dont like the ADA885's? Those were going to be one of my choices. Altec Lansing's are quality speakers...

I definately agree. I have the Altec Lansing ACS48's. They just kick ass for a 3-piece. I have had them for a couple of years and they are still going strong. I play the shit out of them. Loud all the time. Songs with deep loud bass. No problem. They can take it.

I have just heard that Klipsch are better. They have more power and suposedly better sound. I haven't heard the 3 speaker system, but I did hear the 4.1. They sound VERY good with tight loud bass. I will definately get the 5.1's for my media computer.

Altec Lansing. . . they're like the Bose of multimedia speakers. Well maybe not that bad, but they aren't that great. I'm a semi-audiophile nut and I've listened to my share of altec's from friends who have them. I even had a friend that had the AD885's. And trust me you can here a big difference from those and even the Klipsch 2.1's. The reason is that the crossover is better matched on the Klipsch, especially the newer version and teh amp is a lot more consistent. Altec's are decent, but Klipsch know there stuff a little better.

yep ... in the world of audiophiles, BOSE is the devil. it's sort of like wannabe high end/overpriced speakers made for the general public :)

ok.. this is a little off this topic, but what are the best consumer priced speakers for home surround sound?

wee bit off topic, but since i started the thread and i'm also interested in maybe buying a consumer home-theater package, it's totally okay.

I've been looking at the Klipsch Promedia 5.1s that are due out early AUGUST now according to Outpost... *sigh* Those will be $400.

But I've seen a highly-rated Kenwood home-theater-in-one package that include the 5 speakers, woofer, and decent
receiver. Kenwood HTB-504 to be exact. This system would cost $500.

Any thoughts?

Kenwood is an okay brand, but their recievers usually aren't that great. I don't think their speakers would be any better. I haven't personally staged any of theirs in a loooong time so I don't know how their recent models are. But my guess is that the sound will be ok for people who don't care much. But the thing is you won't get that great of a sound system from those all-in-one packages.



Speedfreak-- What price range are you talking about? 'Cause the home audio market ranges in price at extreme ranges with many good fillers in between everywhere.

Well, I was just wondering. After SpeedRacer's comment on BOSE not being good in the world of audiophiles, I was just curious as to what would be the best in the same price range as BOSE....just for information. I am not planning on getting a system like that, I was just curious.


I will be getting those Klipsch 5.1s for my media computer, though. :)

well at the price range that bose charges for their overpriced lifestyle speakers, you can get kick ass speakers from B&W. Like their 700 series. Or something from Paradigm. And a sub from velodyne would match up fairly nicely.
