What are some good asian clubs in NorCal? My friend is new to the area and wants to go but doesn't know where he should go.

Just tell your friend to head south to LA. Better clubs here. :)

Of course, if she goes to LA she'll have to check her soul at the enterance (they have these little booths set up at all highway entrance points, you see...)

Asian clubs? Don't know quite what you mean (probably because I'm not asian and have never heard of an asian club), but it depends on what kinda club you're looking for.

Best club in SF, hands-down:
1015 Folsom
Nikita and Bassment on Fridays, Spundae on Sundays
serious fuckin' sound system, good crowd, world-famous DJs
BUT, I wouldn't go there to hook up...

Hip-hop/jungle:
Justice League

Ghetto-booty clubs:
City Nights/Club X
Club NV
K2/Fluid

"Rave"-style clubs:
Sound Factory
Future Fridays (at Maritime Hall)
Ascension (Thursdays at Blakes in Berkeley)

Other:
330 Ritch
Ruby Skye

Ruby Skye and 1015!!!????

Ice, baby, I can't believe what I'm hearing! Those are two of the lamest yuppie marina-crowd dance places in the city! If you like hanging with self-absorbed "beautiful people," or sixteen year old girls with fake ids, then maybe those are cool places!

There really aren't many good techno clubs in the city anymore, now that the scene is no longer underground. I've managed to enjoy myself at Club 6, 26 Mix, and Liquid (although that was years ago, and I hear Liquid suck now). Best to slither back to the mission for some booze. Or go hang out at Pow! on 6th and Mission St.

On a side note, did you happen to catch Ritchie Hawtin a week or so ago? I guess he played some club on Market St. Missed it myself.

Nah, I missed him - didn't hear he was spinning until the day of. Too bad, though, I wanted to see him using that new weird FinalScratch system (digital vinyl, man).

And I didn't say I go to any of these places (hell, I'm not even 21, so I've only managed 1015 once, but they've got some serious talent going through there), but that's sorta the mainstream list, ya know? :D Just trying to be helpful.

If you want REAL music, you need to go find the undergrounds. Or come to Ascension on Thursdays, because I'm a resident. :) Actually, zen, if you're into Jeno, you should come out on the 26th. Special 3-hour set, nice cozy little basement club in Berkeley. It's gonna be cooooool.

I was thinking more of getting her friend drunk and then taking liberties with Integra herself.

I could always wear my RPI sweatshirt to get her in the mood.

On a side note:
While visiting SF (and Oakland) a couple times in the past few months I noticed there were A LOT of homeless people on the streets. I haven't seen nearly that many homeless people here in NYC. As a matter of fact when I was there I remember watching on the news some big issue of removing benches in the parks and trying to catch the homeless "relieving" themselves in the fountains near Sacramento.
What's the deal with that?

Logic!

If you have no home, would you rather live in NYC (where it is muggy in the summer, freezing in the winter, or in SF where it is temperate all year round)? Also, drugs are easier to get and more accessible here.

As far as peeing in the fountain, which looks more like a urinal: The street corner where you sleep, or a big pool of running water?

Finally, the news story was about Union Square in SAN FRANCISCO (former site of the League of Nations)

Asian club? wtf why don't u just ask for a club. If you wanna go dancing or whatever why does it matter if it's asian white black or whatever

If i said hey what's a good white club in the bay area i'd get blasted for being racist. That's crap, and i'm sick of this reverse PC racist bullshit.

woah! sounds like someone's extremely sensitive or soar cause he/she once got "blasted for being racist." What happened? Walked into the wrong club and got your ass kicked?? Integra can hang with whatever crowd she wants. You're saying she doesn't have that freedom? Why? Cause she's Asian, right? YOU quit the inside-out, politically irrelivant, quite-dumbass, bullshit.

no never happened. but uh yeah maybe that was a bit inappropriate my bad.

and i wasn't saying that the lady couldn't hang out with whoever she wanted. it was more a question of why?

i suppose it's just culture.

Most of it is culture ... it's also because if you are looking for a hook-up and you want to hook-up w/a particular someone (ie Asian, white, black, etc.) then you'll go to that type of club. Also, it doesn't matter to me so much but its my friend who's more specific.

Last time I checked, SF was pretty cold and rainy during the winter. Then again, NYC is freezing so I do see your point. Haahaa.
Anyhow, a few months ago, I went down to downtown SD's Planet Hollywood to eat (yeah I know food isnt great but I haven't been there in a while) and I had some left over food I was taking home. As I was walking to my car, I had like 10 people ask me if I was going to finish my food. (some of them looked like students and stuff, others didn't even look like homeless people at all). Now what's the deal with that?? I never knew SD had that big of a 'homeless' problem. I can see how SF could have homeless people (all the people getting laid off from those internet companies and couldn't afford the insanely high housing costs). But SD??? very disturbing...

Yeah, its definitively culture and identity. That's why most asians hang out with asians...I think the same can be said for all other races really. People hang out with those they can closely indentify themselves too. I don't really see a problem with that...what bugs me is when they start calling you a "sellout" when you hang or hook up with people outside of your race...that just blows.
