HARD DRIVE...??newbie needs ur help

i just got a brand spankin new HD WD 200BB 7200rpm i installed in ma comp perfectly with a boot disc. but do i need to partition it .. i think i already did but it says WINDOWS ME needs ???????bytes

Yes you do.

Boot off the start-up disk. Run fdisk. The first question that comes up is 'do you wish to use the entire capacity' or something of that nature. Say yes to use the full capacity (assuming you want the drive to be partitioned as 1 drive).

(you will need to reboot). boot again off start-up disk. run format--making sure you are telling it to format the correct drive!!!

as in "format d:" where d: is the new drive.

and then install windows me...noobs, cant live with them cant beat them over the head with a hard drive :) jk. it would be funny if i am wrong, cause im not perfect, but i think thats what he was getting at after formatting it...thats the only logical next step i guess

Just remember if you pass the information along to call it "formatting" a drive. You call it partition and someone might think you want to split the drive up to make more than one drive. ;)
