View Full Version : Advise: Musky Dryer

I just moved into a new apartment and the dryer has a musky/sweet 'stank' to it. I haven't used it yet, because i'm afraid the scent might transfer to anything dried.
Anyone out there have any advice on how i might go about removing it? Running the dryer with several scented fabric softener sheet did nothing.
Thanks in advance,
James 'running out of clean clothes' Lee
did you wipe it out first? and change the filter? and like any sort of residual lint in there...get that out. is the smell being piped in? or is it in there already?
wipe it out with baking soda and water on a damp sponge (i dunno the ratio...should be on the box), and check to be sure it's not feeding in.

Talk to your landlord about it. If they advertised the apartment as having a washer/dryer then they should have to maintain them in good working order. If not, I guess you'll have to solve the problem yourself :-(

that "sweet" smell comes from mildew believe it or not. You may have a buildup of DAMP mildew internally in the lint filter(the area that extends down in the dryer right to the barrel but not high enough for you to see or pull out on your own)..the only way to get rid of it is to have a plumber/dryer fixer guy come and take the back off and clean it all out.
