Damn Microsoft called for me just a few minutes ago. The dude was going to start asking me questions, ones I would have no idea how to answer, so I was straight up with him and told the dude that I just wanted a free t-shirt. He was silent then told me my software and t-shirt were on the way........ I guess is it won't come, but hey he said it not me. It scared the crap out of me cause there was this odd scho on the phone when I spoke.... They called me too. My husband BS'ed them and was pretty convincing. Told 'em we were a consulting business that builds PC's on the side for our customers. We get our stuff from Mericel and Ingram Micro (OEM dist., so Microsoft would have no record of us anyway.)... and that we heard about the site from a MSCE friend of his.

Was pretty easy.

I myself just put the people on hold and just pick the phone back up in about 3 minutes and ask them to hang on a few more seconds. You would be amazed how long some people will stay on the line. Nice to have a hold button on your phone, so they can't hear you making fun of them. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I too got a call. The guy was very pleasant and asked me three questions: How many PC's we build per month, who we buy the software from, and what type of business we are in. After I gave them the answers, he thanked me and said my membership was processed!

coleslaw... go with Win2k. ME has a lot of the features that Win2k has, but it is FULLY compatible with win98. So, any drivers or programs that run on 98 will run on ME. Hence, none of the security or stability features has been taken from win2k to put in ME, just the looks and design. It's like Win98 with a desktop theme that looks like Win2k.

Well I figured if they were going to rattle my chain and call me I would make it worth my while. WELL they guy called this AM and I answered the questions ( we build over 125 machines a month I told him - my self and a crew of 5 building and selling PC's - ALL with MS WINDOZE - and other M/S software installed ). At the end of the conversation I asked about the polo shirt and he said he would be sent out within a week or so. Then I asked if ALL my "sales people" would get a shirt AND he says OK - I'll make sure they send 6 of them !!!! Well looks like a nice return for all my MS Windoze headaches and $$$ I have given Bill Gates over the years.

Hey Speedfreak, you're kinda wrong about Millennium(beta 3, latest version). Yes, it does run 98 drivers...but Win2K runs NT drivers(and is it the same?). If you are running a network(or DSL in a network) it is VASTLY superior to win(9x). Win2k sucks with gaming(we had to pull it off of every machine at my last LAN party because of conflicts). Me is by no means perfect(it's a Microsoft product), and still has quite a few bugs; hey, it's still a beta, afterall. my $.02. out.

hmmm, i got the same call but i wasn't home so they left a message on my answering machine, i had no idea what they were talking about so i didn't call them back, then i signed on to my e-mail and I saw an old email talking about my polo shirt i had signed up for. Then it all made sense, i don't think i will call him back because i am a horrible liar. Oh well, i guess we will see... oh and by the way, where did remark on diablo 2 come from??? is it relevant? ---anyways, i agree, i have already pre ordered diablo 2 and am eagerly anticipating its release. . .i was a big fan of diablo original. ..

Hey, RealRammstein, WinME is just Win98 with a pretty facade, minus the old DOS bootup interface for a faster boot-to and access time. No real advantage other than that that I can see. Win95-98 SE still used the old DOS boot for backwards compatibility.

Win2K on the other hand builds on a whole new core, but is a complete hog on resources. Get a *nix system http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif. Anyway, good luck.

yeah, i got the call too, and i answered his questions totally honestly, and he seemed pretty nice. His deep voice made it obvious that he was some big buff black guy, but he was totally nicer than any company CSRs i've ever talked to on the phone (not saying that dudes like that aren't usually). Oh well...incoming T-shirt, starter pack and beta microsoft programs.

Yeah it looks like they will send me the stuff (Shirt, software etc) they assigned me a company number and all. But it totally caught me off guard, and the silent period was freaky. I'll keep you posted if it comes in yeah?

It was about 2pm when they called me, and I was still asleep....(I like to get up at about 4ish..).

I was groggy for a bit...i dont even remember most of what i said...but in the end she said i should be getting it within a few weeks...

That multiple employe idea is pretty good...i dunno what i would do with 6 MS shirts...I dont even thik I'd ware this one...

I guess we'll just have to wait and see....

They called me about 2:00 PM Cent also but they told me that the T-Shirt offer was not REAL and that it was a older offer and had expired.

Of Course they called me when my Windows 2000 BOX had just crashed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They got real quite on the phone when I told them this !!!!

hey Inhibit, we're all entitled to our opionions. But, personally speaking, I have tested ME vs. 98 and consistently get WAY better ping times(as much as a 30 pt. drop in UT)...Also cosistent ping times(vs herky jerky number I was getting from 9x). In comparison to Win2K, it gives vastly better FPS in Dx 7.0A. Granted, win2k is more stable(at least compared to this beta) for office apps, but I can not reccomend Win2k to any gamer(any more than I could reccomend NT to one). Out.
