Why is it that some people that think software piracy is bad have no problem trading DiVX or mp3? Isnt it all stealing? Is there a difference?
Let me be the first of many here at G|A to comment:
I have no problem with either

I second that...as along as I'm not the one making the music/movie or the software.
Heck even then, there will always be people buying them so why should I care?

Stealing is such a harsh word... let's use Liberating

I don't know. The MPAA and RIAA have annoyed me so incredibly that I probably wouldn't feel a lot of guilt if I did still pirate stuff from them. I'm almost tempted to still pirate stuff in defiance, as a protest gesture. Game makers and the actual artists, however, have my sympathy.
However, I don't pirate stuff anymore. Games have gotten so big that when you factor in your time and the effort to find them and download them, it's just cheaper to buy the damn thing. Same with movies.
Music I sometimes temporarily pirate, but I usually end up either buying the CD, or deleting the file.
And there's the guilt factor. I feel guilty if I watch a really good movie, or play a really good game, and haven't in some way rewarded the creator.

yea if it's a good game, you test it and then buy, if you have the money, but for us poor college students it's a little too hard to buy every damn game that we like, well guess what the marketing dept should have thought of that and not jacked up the price... so there that's my 0.02 cents
And most music cd's have like 2 or 3 good songs and the rest is filler, so i turn to mp3's if it's all good or at least 90% then i buy it

not to mention the absurdly high price of cd's...im mean good lord how often does it happen that technology gets more expensive for the same product...i remember when cds were 12bucks average... now they are like 18 average. thats why people have been using alternative methods to aquire music. if cds were cheap enough that it wouldnt be worht it to download...then people wouldnt download....
I'd like to get an auditor in the MPAA to see how much of their software was legit. I worked for one of the top 5 HR consulting firms, and I know for a fact that alot of the software we had in production wasn't legit.
