View Full Version : Large hard drive in older computers
It's been so long since I've dealt with this that I've forgotten the details. I know I need to use either "Large" or "LBA" in the BIOS drive settings, but I've forgotten the limits of each. How much of a large (30Gb-ish) drive can I expect to use? 2Gb? 8.4Gb?

I think FAT 16's maximum drive size is 2.1 GB.

It depends on your hardware. Some of the older stuff allows only 2gb, some of the (les) old stuff allows 8 gb. I have an HP vectra that only sees drives under 8GB, it won't even recognise the disk exists if it is 8GB+
