I know what beer pong is - different rules in different places, but I have friends at RPI, Central FL, UMCP, UVA, and here at UC-Berkeley who all play it. It's not just you, styleee. :D

Is it anything like quarters?
I remember my first drinking game, I was still in the "I can't stand" beer stage. So I drank from a bottle of MD20/20 (Grape, I think) instead.
Some lessons must be learned the hard way, I guess...

as for beer pong...it's definitely not a frat-only game. never been in a fraternity nor have most of myfriends and we play it all the time...what else are you gonna use a ping pong table for?

We used to play beirut wyhen i was in high school. Ive since outgrown the games. It just seems to me thatif the objective is to get drunk...then those games just make it take longer. I say down a few shots and throw back a few beers and be done with it. I remember once we were playing poker, but if you loose you ahve to take a shot....well my friend got really pissed cause he kept winning and everyone else was drunk. And the druker they got the more they lost. So he finally said f-it and grabbed the bottle of cuervo we were sharing. He then proceded to lock himself in his room and didnt come out till he was plastered. So yeah... i say screw the games. If your gonna drink thats game enough

here's your playing field:
/#____|____#\
the slanted thingies are drunks, the horizontal and vertical are the ping pong table. Note that you don't necessarily need a ping pong table and you can use a regular table. The pound signs are where the beers lay.
Distribute a mouthful of beer in red cups in a pattern like this:
.
..
...
....
though obviously centered properly. Use your own discretion with the number of cups.
You can use players or teams, I usually play with a team of two on each side. Each team takes a shot with a ping pong ball, bouncing or not, to get the ball into the opponenent's beer. The opponent then has to down the beer. If you're able to dunk another ball before the opponent has finished the first cup (let's call this the challenge shot), make 'em do something inherently gross, or just have 'em finish a full cup. Should you miss while trying the challenge shot, you need to do something to the opponent's satisfaction.
After you throw, your opponent does. I usually don't play "throw until ya miss," but that's certainly an option. Make sure you alternate throwers. Gentlemen's rules say you re-arrange the cups after removing an empty.
Simple really, and fun. Oh, and if'n you run a classy party, dunk the ball in some water between tosses to maintain a sanitary environment. I've never played that way.

When we played there were different levels of beer in different cups...the more difficult to hit cups would have more beer, the easier to hit cups would have less... This allows for a more strategic game

we play sorta like that, but with one BIG difference.
3 balls / rapid fire :)
no mr. nice guy in this game. you can go after the ball whenever you want. like, if a person is grabbing the ball cause it went to the right, you can run and get the one that fell to the left. there have been injurys ;) and you can't shoot while you're drinking. but there is no challenge thing. sink it and drink it. and the sissys who live upstairs from us give the losing team like, 2 turns after they lose, just so that they can try to win. which is the dumbest thing i've ever heard.
anyway beer pong (http://home.earthlink.net/~crowded2/BP/pages/index2.htm)
