will the 158 dollar switch allow you to share printer and files or do you need a hub as well for that

Yes the linksys works like a 4 port hub with one uplinkport so you can hook up another hub and another,etc up to 253 users so you can share your drives,printers with Microsofts networking (make sure you install netbui protocol).

I highly recommend it especially if you have a DSL or cable connection to the internet and it is always on.
