Just recently watched Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and I have to say that I feel sorry for the people that have been anticipating this movie for months now.

The animations and renderings were nicely done. For the first 20 minutes everyone in the theater ahhh and ooohed at the nicely done computer animations. But that alone only hooked the audience for the first half of the movie.

After that, as the story slowly unfolded, the movie took a huge dive into utter boredom. The action was there, but it was only a bit less exciting than what you would see in a Power Ranger movie.

The dialogue was uninspired and cliché... The story's morals were sooo predictable that it made you groan. The movie just took itself WAY too seriously, and failed to deliver.

All that however does not match the ridiculousness of the story line... you have to see it to believe. It has to be least engaging plots I have yet seen in any movie for the past 2 years, and that includes the made for TV movies every Friday on UPN.

But of course, you don't have to agree :)

i haven't seen any of the previous FF movies, or ever watch anime, so it was ok for me... it couldve been better, but i didn't really minda the plot like some of you have mentioned... I enjoyed the complexity of the animation and detail they put into it. nowhere did they lack in detail that i coudl see. it was almost perfect, just a little choppy sometimes, the fingers/hands were too thick, clothes a little to rigid, hair too perfect, and skin color just a bit off. but, the girls hair (even though too perfect sometimes) was awesome... especially were one or two single hairs would whisp in fron of her face. soon actors will become outdated... :D
