I have a question for all you people with the Amex Blue card. Is their price protection guarantee for just B&M stores, or does it include online stores too? Like if I bought something from Buy.com and the price dropped like a month later, will they pricematch it?

It works for Internet price matching also. I just bought an Olympus C2100 UZ digital camera a few months back. I waited until right at the end of the 60 day match period and then used http://www.dealtime.com to find the lowest current Internet price. I called the AX customer service number, filed a claim (they verified the online price while I was on the phone with them), and had a check for about $115 within two weeks. Awesome card and service is great.

Most excellent! Now I know I am going to get a lot of use out of this card!

BTW, how is that model camera? I was thinking about puchasing it because I need something with a high optical zoom.

It's amazing what you can do thanks to the mechanical (gyro?) stabilization in that camera. My father has it (I have the C700UZ myself...) and while people may scoff at it due to its low megapixelage (word?), the stabilization lets you really use every element of the CCD to its fullest effect. There are only three real drawbacks:

1) It is BIG, which is why I got the C700UZ (1/3 the size, 1/2 the weight, no stabilization) myself (If you don't push the limits the 10X zoom is pretty useful on it.... but NOT from moving cars like the one on the C2100UZ.)

2) It doesn't implement USB storage class like many of the slightly newer Olympuses.

3) Due to the nature of the digital TTL viewfinder, you sometimes find yourself "sighting down the barrel" in low light conditions. (Annoying at times, but it still gets the job done.)

In general though, I have nothing but raves about that camera. Hope that helped.

I agree. Absolutely great camera. I wavered on deciding between the C2100UZ and a 3.3MP camera and decided the 10X stabilized zoom won out. I haven't been disappointed. The newer C700UZ psaux has looks really nice too.

Whoa... that's pretty cool... so they reinstated the online best value guarantee. Nice! There was a time when they discontinued it for online purchases :| I'm glad to hear they came back to their senses!

Sounds like AMEX Blue is a good card. I might have to get me one of them. Is there an annual fee? Does anyone know of other cards that pricematch off the web, particularly a card that gives some sort of reward back (ie travel miles, cash, etc)?

You can go to http://www.americanexpress.com/ to learn all about the blue card. It has 0.00% APR for the first 6 months, but afterwards I would probably recommend paying off your CC every month.

GotApex has a link to it somewhere on this site I think. I clicked through it on http://www.******.com because they will give you $15 for signing up which is a nice little bonus on a card that does so much.

I remember a while ago when I activated it (and talked to a real person, that was suprising) and I asked about it and she said it was only for the non student card, so have any of you done anything with it?

Price Matching works on the following cards...
Blue, Optima Platinum, Platinum Card, Gold Card, Gold Rewards Plus, Centurion Card, Fidelity Gold, Fidelity Platinum, American Express Credit Card, Optima Buyers Bonus Card.

I don't know about that. I looked through all their cards info and only the Blue ones specifically stated the "Best Value Guarantee". The other ones havs "Buyer's Assurance" & "Purchase Protection Plan" and other similar features. But unless you can specifically find it in writing that the other cards do offer the "Best Value Guarantee" then Blue is the only way to go.

I belive that the AMEX "Return Protection" that comes with a lot of their cards just lets you return products to AMEX that a store won't take back for whatever reason. This is good, but it's not price matcing.

You should note that the price matching is NOT offered on the "Blue for Students" card. Instead they offer you special "deals" and offers on airfares, etc. So if you're a student going blue, I wouldn't get the student card.

If anyone gets a response from Amex regarding pricematching online, post it.

Do you have to apply explicitly for a student card? I am a student but I just applied for the regular Blue card. Will they just railroad me to a student card?

I called AX and told them I wanted to file a claim under the price protection guarantee. They asked me some questions (date of purchase, price paid, item bought, etc.) and then asked me where I had found a lower price. I told them the web site. She then told me that she was going to connect me to another associate who's job it is to verify online pricing. A guy came on the line and asked me for the Web address. I told him. He looked up the item on the page, verified the price and said "Okay." The lady came back on the line and told me to fax my item receipt for my original purchase with the claim number written on it. I did and got my check about 2 weeks later. Never once did they say anything about price matching online prices. Granted, my original purchase was from an online store. The whole process was actually pretty pleasant (especially the check!). I was prepared to argue if they refused to price match an online retailer. First, when I signed up for the card, that was the main reason. Second, they never sent me anything indicating that they had stopped price matching online prices. Even though I had heard that through these boards. Maybe I was lucky, but I doubt it.

What I meant that, there was a time, I think last year/ two years ago, I don't remember, when the specifically said they were going to discontinue online price matching. But b/c there were so many inquiries and b/c many people only buy online, THEY REINSTATED IT. So that's good news to all!

An addon question before I go buy something from Office Depot.

Office Depot won't price match internet items from say like Buy.com

So if I use the blue to buy the item, and use a coupon for it. When they ask me how much I paid for it, do I include the price before or after the coupon?

And will they care about how much it was shipped for and such?

they've got member rewards, you get points for $1 you buy and then you can redeem points for stuff.

But I haven't found that info on the coupons on their website. Oh well, guess I'll buy it and find out later.

I have a AMEX Platinum. Had just recently purchased a Sony Clie with it, and being the dumbass I am, lost it during a flight home. Called them up, talked to someone, faxed them a copy of the receipt, got a check in the mail to cover the purchase price of the lost item. Not sure if it applies to other AMEX cards, but just for that, it sure as hell earned the annual fee.

works just like ILovedogs said above. i've done it three times. works online/offline all the same, i buy everything online.

coupons are useless tho, they only count the final price for the item.. like no tax, no shipping. if you used a coupon, that counts toward it & the will take the price after coupon.

According to the rules, no, you can not price match with AMEX if the store you bought from offers price matching...

Is there a certain dollar amount or incident limit with this ? whats keeping me from buying a laptop and saying i "lost" it. i would essentially get the laptop for free then no?

Well AMEX doesn't cover shipping and taxes on the price matching, oh well. Not a biggie. I just filed a claim for Office depot item. Yeah, they have a price matching policy but it seems that they don't match online prices. Go figure.

It's called fraud, it is considered the same as stealing. It's not worth it. Jail is not a good place to be.
TLG, If it was sent by USPS and you say you didn't get it, when you did, that's mail fraud, isn't it?

Any way it is not worth it. We are about deals and freebees, not stealing.

Does AMEX only match the actual price of the item or will they include the shipping and/or tax that gets tacked on to the purchase price?

Altho somewhere I heard that they're only going to match printed prices so a webpage printout wouldn't work.

I just found out I got denied a cliam for a TAG watch I got during Chrtistmas. Does anyone know if this is wrong? Any ideas? Claim was for $250.

I got the Olympus C700UZ during the holidays. Am still waiting for the $220 pricematch... purchased from Ritzcamera.com, and pricematech through regencycamera.com. The original price match claim had to be done over the phone, where I was given a claim#. I then had to use this number via email to send confirmation of purchanse. The imediate confirmation email said my claim will take up to 2 weeks to process. Three weeks later, I emailed them back, they told me it will take up to four weeks. Today marks four weeks! and still no word.

I'm also waiting for microsoft wallet rebate, anybody hear from them yet?

Another heads up about the blue card... minimum income is 20k. And the student blue card is completely different and doesn't have as many benefits.

I own an online store, and we have a real credit card merchant. I can answer your AE question. Yes, it is much more expensive to use AE. Currently my company accepts Discover, MC, VISA, and AE. But guess what? We have many customers a day, and most of them use VISA/MC. No one uses Discover, however only about 5 ppl max has used AE in our company to purchase things and we sell computer products! So, that is why many online stores choose not to accept AE, the users are just too little, you are looking at 1-5%, whereas VISA/MC have about 90% + and greater rates.

So I filed a claim and faxed AMEX all the information it wanted. Now, how long does it take before I hear something back? When will I know if they've rejected or accepted my claim? All this waiting is driving me mad! :D :P

Amex is great for rewards if you are into shopping. I earned close to $600 in merchandise GC's last year with my corporate Amex, and another $35 so far this year with my Amex Blue. The rewards, combined with the price matching, make this a great card - as long as you pay your balance in full each month.
