Did anybody manage to order one of these before buy.com doubled the price?

They are now $352.95 before rebate -- I put my order in when I saw it on the deals page on Tuesday,July 17, but it is still on "back order". I got an update from them saying they are working on the order, but still no ETA or tracking number on it yet.

I just used PriceGrabber to find the lowest price, cause I waited too long to order from Buy.com. The end price from the store was $180 or something, but then with the $100 rebate...$80!!

actually there is a UNHEARD of deal that just ended at dell.com

they have the cdrw for 172 bucks. also free shipping cuz it is over 100 bucks. they had a 20% off deal so that makes to go down to 137.60. then there is a 30 off 100 coupon which makes it 107.60. then there is a 100 dollar rebate from hp, which makes it an UNHEARD of deal of $7.60. now that is a killer deal. the problem is it just ended midnite of 23rd of july. the 30 off 100 coupon is still valid though. might still want to jump on it for 30+ bucks after rebate

I just received my order hp9900i from A2Z.com and there was a brown hp box with another white hp box containing the drive.
on that hp brown box, there was a "hole" which i suspect was a upc code (but it got cut out). It seems that A2Z.com has cut out the upc code on that brown box. However i found another upc code on the inside box. Is it the same for you guys? hey what about the serial number? is is the one on the UPC or is it another number? is it possible for you guys to post the numbers on the UPC so i can check if it is the one that i have or the one that AZ.com cut out?
Thanks a lot

Here's an email exchange I had w/a rep from a2zcomp reguarding the 9900ci and being able to pricematch buy.com:

I already had my order in w/buy.com, and decided to take my chances on the back-order coming in -- I should be getting the drive on Monday...

Anyway, here's a sample image from HP of an eligible barcode and part of their rebate policy:

http://www.hp-at-home.com/images/offers/achieve/barcode.gif

[b]"hp UPC/barcode proof-of-purchase label and serial number instructions:
To qualify for your rebate(s) you must include the serial number and original UPC barcode label for EACH qualifying product.
UPC/Barcode Label: The hp UPC/barcode label is located on the outside of your hp product box. The sample label shown is just an example.
Please note that some UPC/barcode labels have up to 7 barcodes.
Serial Number: The product serial number can be found on the back or bottom of your hp product."

Well, the sample barcode looks mighty similar to the one on my white box.

Not to put a damper on this (I got sucked in too) but there was a discussion somewhere, maybe even here, that you can't get the $100 rebate and possibly the $50 one either. Apparently the $100 rebate was only supposed to be for people who had already purchased and registered a previous HP product AND had the link to the rebate mailed to them from HP. I don't know whether or not that is true, that's just what was said. Secondly (and this is on the rebate form just like everyone elses) the drive has to be purchased from an authorized HP reseller/retailer. I'm sure buy.com probably is, but for people like me who purchased from somewhere else (I got mine at PC Nation) I believe we may be left out in the cold (remeber the Dell/Viewsonic deal a couple of days ago?) I'm sure the people who got thier drives at buy.com can at least get the $50 rebate... By the way, my drive from PC Nation also has a hole in the outer cardboard box that lines up perfectly with the barcode that is on the retail box inside. Maybe that's how HP drives that reach 'unauthorized' dealers come? Who knows...

anyone wanna try to call hp to see their definition of "unauthorized seller"?
