View Full Version : Free Speech For The Dumb
First let me recite lyrics by TOOL
I can't say what I want to, even if I'm not serious. Things like.... **** yourself, kill yourself, you piece of ****. People tell me what to say, what to think, and what to play. I say..."Go **** yourself, you piece of ****. Why don't you go kill yourself? Just kidding.
This leads me [sorta] to my point...which is that the swear censors must be turned off. By keeping them on, you miss the meaning of the song written above, as the censored word is just as important as the one which precedes it

wait a minute...
If Apex wants to ban swearing - as is his right, since this is a privately owned and operated forum - then you have to live within those limits. It's that simple.
Personally, I get more from this community than giving up swearing costs me, so it's absolutely worth it to me. And you know? Everyone in the G|A gang is really cool, and that counts for a lot.

i don't like this cencorship on swearing!!
i used to love to see the ****ING words i would ****ING write be displayed with NO ****ING PROBLEM!
**** **** **** ****
this sucks MAJOR COCK!
We left the censors off because we trusted you to keep the swearing down. Unfortunately, even after many warnings, several members still could not grow up and behave, so they screwed it for the rest of you.
For those who fail to understand how the freedom of speach works on private venues, feel free to go create your own. We've been very very patient, but I refuse to let the childish whining of a few ruin it for everyone else.

You brought it on your (our) selves. With some of the posts on here, I'm surprised it wasn't turned on here earlier. With folks like stupidzbu and welfareloser apparently incapable of expressing something without use of profanity, it was getting way out of hand. And I'm a long, long way from the decision making loop, so don't shoot the Nelson (ha ha!).
Really, I don't blame Leon. Apparently, some people AREN'T adult enough to say what they mean. Unless they walk around all day thinking "****! ****ety **** ****!" or something equally inane.
You fill in the blanks. That's part of the fun.

hey penny, since this is the off-topic part of the forum, let me stray from the topic and ask: Since when were you Bob Costas and Mary Hart's Lovechild?

I for one am completely behind you on this, Apex. I'm no prude when it comes to swearing, but enough is enough!

hey now!! i cherish and nurture my profanity because i find myself funny. you have no reason to think that i am any less intelligent than you just cuz i enjoy it (though immaturity is a fair enough accusation...) i think i do a very good job of saying exactly what i mean, with or without profanity, so [BIG spray]thpppffffft[/BIG spray] to you. :P
i cleaned up after the warning, because i support apex's right to have his fourums the way he likes em.
y2j - i don't think anything got lost in the translation - there are only about 5 words to choose from that the blanks could be; everyone gets it... :P
and it's not about free speech, its about people who are offended by or uncomfortable with profanity feeling as welcome and comfortable at g|a as all of us unedumacated poopyheads.
i say we now follow the kindergarten rule. if the average kindergartener (meaning, not my kid) can get away with saying it and not get in trouble, then it is an appropriate word. doo-doo-face being much more creative than ****-for-brains, anyway....

Exactly, welfare. I am not extremely bothered by it, although with a 3 year old, I try and refrain from doing it myself (LOL It's amazing what they can pick up on...), but when it is excessive, then it becomes bothersome. :)
hey, tell that doo-doo-face m0j0risin I said hello next time you talk to him. ;)

Have you ever tried talking to someone and every other word is sh** and F@!@? I have to say that it really dumbs down the conversation. I can't take the person seriously, even if it is used during an important talk on the middle east crisis or AMD vs. intel. it just a replacement for intelligent thought and pisses me off. makes me want to throw my poop at you and scratch my armpits.
Now if you are ranting or angered at the f*cking spin doctors in the corporate world then it's more appropriate to use such language. throwing in a couple of swear words hear and there adds emotion and passion to your argument. More fitting for the S/NSS forum i guess.
and if you are one of those people that have to throw in some swear words to get a laugh, then "YOU are not funny!! Stop trying to be something you are not!" blah.
can i get a witness?

Moderation is simply common sense. And frankly, if you keep it up, we're going to have to censor the goddamn period key. Enough with the ellipses already!!

Oh, I certainly don't think you're less intelligent than me. The gist of your posts would suggest otherwise. But something like the post Leon linked are just way outta hand. Maybe you'd lost a big account. Maybe someone had lit dog poo on fire and put it on your doorstep. Whatever, I'm pretty much as liberal, expression-wise, as it gets; hell, I'm one of pornography's biggest proponents! But when it ranges up into just flat obscenity, I don't think we're getting any new or better information because every other word would, now, be four asterisks.
