I recently went to CompUSA and bought the TDK 12x drive when I got home I noticed it was the rebadged Ricoh.
I pretty much know all there is about the model numbers and stuff.
I just want to know if the 12x"Rebadged Plextor" is better than the 12xA"Rebadged Ricoh".
Please give me some feed back and specs.
Burn-Proof vs. Just-Link, etc...
I still have not opened my 12xA from CompUSA and I am trying to decide if I should take it back.
Please help it is taunting me to open it.
I am dead tired and just want some good info to base a decision off of.
Input is needed.

uh, well my friend has a 12x tdk velocd. It's got burnproof, but i'm not sure if it's a plextor or a ricoh. I thought it was a plextor, but it might not be. His kicks ass if that's what you're wondering about.
I'm just curious why aren't u going for a little more speed, and buying off the internet?

A) The Ricoh has a tray with a door on it and the Plextor is just a regular tray.
B) After I get the rebates back it actually will cost less from CompUSA ($80). I didn't see the sense in paying $100 more to save two minutes a burn. Because pretty soon that burner will be as much as the one I am buying now. So in the end I will have two burners and altogether it will be cheaper than the one 24x burner.

For info like this I would try the coaster factory web site.

But either way, that is a good price.
BTW if you use the stock adaptec Easy Cd you will be burning a lot slower compared to using an after-market burner software like Nero.
I don't know the legistics of it, but using Nero has cut minutes off my burns and it is far more reliable.

I finally decided to open it.
Every thing you could want is included.
2 Cd-R (12x)
1 CD-RW (10x)
1 TDK CD Mark-R
a video tape (I havent watched it yet)
it also includes Nero (deffinately a plus)
Shortly after I opend it I recieved a reply at another horum saying that the rebadged Ricoh which is the one I got did better than the Plextor version on the review he had read.
I love it. It saved me from 80 buffer underuns on my first burn. The only thing is if I chose to simulate the burn before I actualy burn it I get a message saying buffer underun and it ejects the cd then it closes back up and actualy burns the disc. Everything comes out just fine.
Anyone know why it does this?
