Who was looking for a CD-RW drive again?

It IS a Smart and Friendly, but Office Depot should have a 4x4x24 for $99. Keep in mind that it is a SMART AND FRIENDLY. I don't have any other details about the product other than that.

It's a brand that has a rather shoddy record for reliability. I think...wasn't there another company called something and something that was [also] really bad?

If I'm not mistaken all plextor drives are actually made by a third party company. Some are made by plextor (good drive) and yamaha(very good drive). To find out who makes it use the search engine at ZDNet to compare model numbers. You will find that some of the numbers are very similar, that will probably be the company that made it..

p.s. you should also use ZDNet to check the quality of the drives, too.. I've found them to be very useful.
