Alright... I've got a '96 Taurus LX.. and one complaint

That damn oval radio. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find the '96 - 99 radio with electronic climate controls and cd changer controls.

I've seen the install kits, but man they look ugly. So I'm looking for an OEM part.

Thanks

Call up your local ford dealer and see if such a thing exists. Also ask them what manufacturer makes it so maybe you can get it direct rather than get ripped off by the dealer. Also I dont thing install kits look bad maybe you just saw an ugly one keep searching.

I used a kit on my 98 Escort and I don't think it looks all that bad (this is another one of those times I wish I had a digital camera).

Mine looks similar to that one, but it's slightly different.

And anyway, you won't find a changer that will work with the stock deck, except of course, the stock changer. And for the price of those two, well let's just say you could afford a much, much nicer system if you went with the kit. I did hear once that you could use Clarion changers with the Ford deck but that was later refuted by several car audio experts, plus the guy at the local dealership's parts department.

FM mod is another option, but if you're worried about looks...

P.S. Now that I think about it, I thought the kit was ugly at first (out of the box), but once they got it in it looked much better. Don't make your decision until you've seen a kit installed.
