In case you missed the last FREE Phillips deal, here's another one.

First, make sure that both your local Best Buy and Office Depot have this drive in stock. If they both have the drive in stock, have OfficeDepot pricematch BestBuy's advertised price of $69.99.

There's a $10 instant rebate, making the drive $59.99 + tax out the door. Now there are two rebates for this drive (and I suggest you use a different mailing address for each one), but Phillips has a $40 off Rebate here:
http://www.rebateshq.com/weblogic/rebateshq/parago/viewPromotionDetails?bundleId=234837&promoCd=01-37104

And OfficeDepot has a $30 off Rebate here:
http://209.69.149.201/printrebates.asp?filename=1&i=rebates/philips30_p.gif&SID=&item=751

Also, if you can find it, OD has a $15 off $50 coupon somewhere, but it's only if you order online. I'm pretty sure OfficeDepot.com has sold out on the drives, but if you can somehow manage to have your Brick and Mortar OD let you use the $15 off $50 coupon, then you make more money :)

$69.99 .. Pricematching BB's Price
- $10 Instant Rebate
- $15 off $50 Coupon
- $30 MIR from OD
- $40 MIR from Phillips
------
FREE + $25.00 in your pocket

You'll have to pay Sales Tax, so it might be more like $20 in your pocket.

Actually I visited their rebates at officedepot.com and they seem to have two rebates for the same product, model #PCRW804. One is a $30 rebate, and the other is a $40 rebate. That's an extra $10 off!

Here's the $40 rebate link:

I think I heard through the grapevine...but I can remember exactly, maybe I was drinking wine from my grapes. ;)

Anyway, I think I heard that you CANNOT use both rebates because they go to the same place. I'm not sure though, hope Im wrong. Can anyone confirm or deny???

Yeah, I'm not sure if both rebates are going to go through or not.

I figured it was worth a shot...so after calling 7 different Office Depots I found one that still had the burner. They matched the best buy price so I ended up paying like 75 something with tax.

Basically, there are two ways to cash in what appears to be the same rebate. One of them is by using the link that MrCodeDude posted, http://www.rebateshq.com/weblogic/rebateshq/parago/viewPromotionDetails?bundleId=234837&promoCd=01-37104
This one requires you to send in a bar code along with the regular store receipt.

The second rebate is a seperate receipt that you get from Office Depot when you buy the burner. You just have to fill it out and send it in with a bar code. The burner actually had two identical bar codes on it so it worked out ok.

The addresses that you send the two rebates to differ by one digit ( It's like PO BOX 9070 and PO BOX 9080 ) or something like that. Only one of the rebate forms asks for the serial number. If you two different addresses...the only way I can see that they'd be able to tell it was the same purchase is by comparing the transaction numbers on the receipt (which they very well may do for all I know). In any case, paying 35 dollars for a burner is not that bad of a deal.

Just use different addresses for each rebate :)

IM PISSED OFF

i just went to the office max on Broadway tween 3rd and 4th st.. and they wouldn't price match my shiznick.. and when i finally blew a fuse, they finally called bestbuy... couldnt reach a company rep.. so they finally gave me the drive for 69 but wouldnt give me slip for the rebate to get another 40 off "we'd be losing money if we did" says they.. i said.. "not my fault on that.. u guys decided to have ur price match plan.." finally got tired of bickering with a plum so i walked out

They kept telling me that the 69.99 from bestbuy was the same price they had.. cause bestbuy has an instant rebate and office maxs' is a mail in rebate.. so thats how i had so much problem with em... any one have any luck on this one? And if so, where in the city can i turn to??

Argh!! one pissed off JellyBean....grrrr....

********************************

EDIT:
I'm a moron.. i finally understand what price matchin is.. I'm suppose to Match the price with BB.. then get the 2 rebates.. DOH!!! wish someone had sate me down and explained it to me before.. sheesh..
NM my stupidity.. sorry!!

Why not just buy it at Best Buy?

JellyBelly
07-26-2001, 08:35 PM
Cause then u only get 40 dollars off from the phillips rebate.. so it'll end up being 35 or so.. if u buy from OfficeDepot, there is another rebate.. so u take another 40 off and u make 5.. i think the 15 off 50 deal is over...

Dang JellyBelly, that sucks.

I found the burner at this Office Depot in Orange, somewhere near the 55. The cashier matched it to 69 but seemed a little confused because she "sweared it was cheaper than 109." Luckily, the rebate form didn't print up until I had signed the CC receipt and given it back to her. After she tenatively handed the final receipt over, she called over this other guy to ask him something about the rebate.

I already had the burner and both receipts though and I was in a hurry so I just left them alone to talk about whatever they wanted to talk about.

Unfortunately, this was the last burner from that store.

Knowing how Office Depot's price match works from gaining a sweet deal on CDR's a while back, I quickly called both the local best buy and Office Depot in Irvine.

Basically Office Depot's old policy was that if you showed them an advertised price that is cheaper(best buy) and that store had it in stock, they'd sell you the product with a 150% discount. However, Office Depot lost a lot of money from economists like us from Got Apex so they took out the 150% price matching and only made it a 100% price match.

Basically you just have them pricematch to best buy and get the receipt that should automatically print out after your purchase, fill this out with one address and then print out the Philips rebate and use a DIFFERENT address on this, giving you a better chance at the rebate. If you look at the rebate Office Depot gives you it says "Offer may not be combined w/ other Philips offers" and "limit one per household." I think basically the Office Depot and Philips rebate is the same, but it's worth a try anyways, but $35 is still a good deal

How did you get Office Depot to price match with Best Buy? The a**hole at my local OD (4 units in stock) says they will only price match with Staples and Office Max. Does anyone have a copy of the OD price matching policy?

aznmoogle

They don't have the price match policy in a document, heh, i learned from that in my first problem with Office Depot a while ago. Their policy should be in a banner or a sign behind the main counter when you walk in. Most of the stores hide the information that says 150% pricematch, but it should still say "Low Price Guarantee."

Just go in, have a person get you the burner out of the case, then present the best buy ad at the counter and then they'll call up best buy to see if it's in stock. On the receipt it says

8x4x32 Inter 109.99
MFG List $149.99
Competitor Price
$69.99
Competitor's Code 04
Low Price Guarantee
Discount 40.00-
Subtotal 69.99

If they don't give it to you still, then you have to argue with them and state that their policy states that they guarantee to beat the lowest price advertised. Arguing with them will work most of the time, cuz they'll get sick of it and "make an exception." I've only had to argue once with the person for them to price match it. Call for the manager if you have to.

Good Luck!

Hey.. For you New Yorkers out there..

I finally got my drive today.. its a Good-Looking drive too if i may say...

when i called in the mornin, there were 4 in stock.. imma guess there are only three left since i took one..

the store to go to in the city is 41st and Broadway.. they have internet connection there.. i brought my laptop to show em a .pdf just in case they wanted to see it.. but they have internet connection there.. tell em to surf the web for bestbuy.com if they dont believe ur ad (or my computer...) anyway.. this is what you do..
At the computer:
1)goto http://www.bestbuy.com
2)click on advertised weekly specials on the left hand side bar...
3)scroll to page 28.. it'll be in the center bottom.

the manager didnt even bother to look. just told the associate "go ahead.. give him an override to 69.99.." got my rebate slip too.. so imma get it down to 29.99 before the phillips rebate..

once again.. if ur in the city.. place is 41st and broadway..

pretty much what i said to the manager was "hey.. I heard you guys pricematch.. Bestbuy has it for 69.99.. if you have the internet connection, i can show you online instead of off my computer"

thats it.. goodluck people.

I don't see why people need to steal my posts (this one for example), slap their name on it, and post it at different boards.. Such as Anandtech, raven82, if you're out there, you'll be looked down upon.

Has anybody that tried this seen any of the rebate money? I haven't received anything from these guys. I don't usually do rebates...do they usually take this long? I asked at my local office depot and they said to call up Philips which I haven't gotten around to doing yet.

Philips claims they fired the original rebate processing company they hired to handle these. Problem is, they didn't bother to tell anyone. If you call the phone number on the rebate form they will give you the number to Philips. Philips is now handling the rebates themselves. They claim they don't have any of the original rebate processing documents sent to the first company so you have to give them your name, address, product model number and serial number again so they can process it. They won't ask you to mail anything in. I did this 2 months ago and still haven't seen a check. When you call, be sure to give them hell for their inadequate rebate processing. Those a-holes!

yeah, i had some problems when i bought a soundcard from them. it came w/two $20 rebates, but both sent to the same place asking for the same thing. i called and they said they were both good, but got an email from them saying they needed the s/n. when i called they said that there had been problems w/their rebate handling and that they were using a whole new system, not to worry my rebates would be coming. i havent seen them yet, but theyre not supposed to be here. hope it works.
