suggestions: sound system

Hey guys, I know there is a lot of talk about speakers for gamers, but I just want a nice speaker system for mp3's. Do the surround sound speakers sound good with mp3's? I want it to be able to be my primary sound system for when friends are over. Which speakers are loud enough for that. I am on a budget and saw that the altec lansing atp3 and Altec Lansing ACS54 are both 29.99 at Office Max for some friends and family sale. Are any of these good speakers? Thanks.

they may be a little over budget but the altec lansing ada885 kick major ass, they are my new speakers running on my santa cruz sound card...they fill my whole house with peaches and cream and purple pills when i have the volume half way up, they dont crackle, they can handle some hefty sound and the subwoffer is huge (10*14) great for bragging rights, they come with a remote and they are really kick ass speakers i sound like a ssales man but these are so awesome i just gotta say it lol
