I looked around at the laptops and they have some good systems up for sale. Just be aware, DELL's "outlet" is just a nice way of saying refurbished. The laptops are $400 off from what I see.

There's a nice Inspirion 8000 laptop:
PIII-900 MHz, 256MB (2 DIMMS), 8x DVD, 10GB hard drive, 15" screen, 32MB GEFORCE2 video card for about $1600 (after the $400 discount). I'm sure DELL provides great support on their refurbs too. Good luck....

Check auctions.ibm.com's eBay store.

i.e.

New A Series PIII 850/128MB/32G W98 SE DVD (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1259136357) (16 available at this price)
$ 1459.00

ThinkPad A-Series P3 750/64MB/20G/15" TFT W2k (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1259137556) (42 available at this price)
$ 1299.00

Keep looking at their stuff every few weeks cuz they change their items often.

I'd keep looking at IBMs, but I'd take DELL over IBM any day. They (the Inspirion 8000s) got the best rating from Laptop Magazine (I read it an Barnes & Nobles, I don't think anyone actually subscribes to that magazine) and the IBMs did OK, but not as good as DELL for the price. Thanks for the idea 'wird.
