I just installed a new DVD-ROM in my 'puter and when I put my case on a hard surface (normally on cardboard-then on a plastic mat for office chairs)
I noticed that my case was vibrating...very irritating and I suspected not great for the components. I isolated it to my hard drive.
So, I got to thinking...what could I use to reduce the vibrations yet still have the HD fit into the little HD bracket in the case...
I tried this and it worked: I put a strip of electricians tape on either side of the harddrive and then on either side of the bracket. When I refastened the drive in the case, the vibrations were noticeably reduced, and didn't translate as far on the hard surface.
I don't know if anyone else had problems with vibrations, but this was a fun little experiment and it turned out to have positive results.
