Yeah for additional $100 I picked up a Creative DVD RAM. The dvd drive is no bargain. If I were going to get another DVD drive I'd go with the Pioneer 10X slot drive that has been going for $129-$149. Higher prices usually come bundled with a decoder card, some with the best one out there, the Hollywood.

You have a DVD RAM drive? Cool..burn a DVD yet? http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif .. I'm not too familiar with DVD RAM drives, are the recorded DVD's playable in all (or most) DVD drives, ie. like a standalone DVD player? I know it's not worthwhile yet, since media is unbelievably expensive, but i've always been curious..or am I thinking about DVD-R here or something..

DVD-R is not the same as DVD RAM, DVD RAM I believe is just the basic DVD. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure thats it)

Hey Crunch, is the 100 cdr's $29.99 or $39.99? I click on the specs link and it shows to be $39.99. Maybe its because the sale hasn't kicked in yet? Yes, no?

yeah - all the links will have their "regular" prices - dont pay any attention to the prices on the links that i put there - the links are just for people who want to actually see what the product is. the real price will be 29.99 in the ad when it comes out on sunday.

Don't get the i/o magic camera. It blows. hardcore. I'm going to return it and raise a ruckus since they get a 15% restocking fee. I wasn't expecting much for $80 bucks but this was just pathetic...

Yeah...the I/O Magic digital camera from CompUSA is hardly state-of-the-art, but it sure is fun and it takes decent enough pictures to send to friends on the Net. I just bought it ($50 after rebates) and it's the rough equivalent of a disposable digital camera. At least I won't worry losing it or having it stolen. Certainly this is the camera I'll take on my next backpack tour of Central America. It holds 36 exposures and is a little larger than a credit card. Would be good for kids too. A cheap way to start learning about digital photography.

here is the ad:

maybe your compusa wasnt a "participating store" or something like that

Grr. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/mad.gif Don't bother trying to get that "free-after-$30-rebate" 50-pack of CDRWs unless you also plan to buy the HP CDRW drive that's shown next to it in the ad.
Of course, there's no actual mention of this in the ad - the drive and the discs are merely shown side-by-side, and the CD-RW box says "50-pack of CDRWs $29.99, FREE after $29.99 rebate". That's all, no actual correlation between them. But the rebate slip is all about that HP drive. I was all ready on Sunday to go home with a big box o'blanks, but no dice. If it hadn't been closing time, I'd have taken it up with a manager.
'course, i don't know if it's worth it anyway, with the 50% success rate I have with those damned compUSA CD-RWs. I just keep going back to the store and trading the bad ones in....
where do ya get some decent CD-RWs for around $1 each? (or less, of course) http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
my first post - please pardon any bad smilies...

I'd also have to say that the camera is good. It's pic's are decent enough for 50 buck's.
I have fun playing around with it because it's so tiny, and it's nice not to have to worry about film. If your looking to just have fun and experiment with a digital camera this is good for that. Otherwise pay $500 for a good one.

Nope, not your imaginiation. CompUSA hasn't put out an add in a bit due to a slow down in the holiday's. I was talking to a manager at a local branch, and he was saying it just isn't profitable for them (i.e., the add's don't generate extra business at that time of the year), so they just don't publish sales.

DVD-RAM can only be read by dvd-RAM drives.
It stores 5.2GB on both sides 2.6 single sided. It also reads CD's,CDR,CDRW, and optical discs(if you have those).

I usually see the CompUSA ads in Saturday's paper, not Sunday's. Anyway, the $29.99 rebate for the spindle with the HP CDRW does say 'With Purchase' right on the ad.
