View Full Version : The latest Sony Clie Peg-N710C

I'm thinking about getting rid of my Palm V and buy a new colored PDA. Anyone has an idea which one is better? The latest SONY clie Peg-N710C seems cool, it has a mp3 player and extension memory slot. Comparing it to those PocketPC or Palm m505, which one is more worth it?
They are all good, but it depends what you need it for. The Sony has great resolution (after OS 4.0 upgrade), decent memory expansion (i say decent because it is good memory, but very expensive), enhanced jog dial functionality (i hear), one of the best color screens currently availible, nice mp3 features and cool wired remote. The m505 is also good unit which give you sd memory expansion, but not much else. pocket pc's are also good for multimedia and windows compatablity. i hear some have excellent screens which give sony a good fight, but still cost more than sony. dont forget the very capable handera 330, which runs on the palm os, and is the succesor to the TRGpro. it has a soft graffiti area (which gives more screen), resolution almost as good as sony, cf card expansion and a jog dial. i hear that the 330 has a real speaker, but i suggest you double check. i suggest the sony if you have the budget and you want a palm os handheld, but im biased toward sony so dont rely on only my suggestion.
[EDIT] Sorry, i forgot that the HandEra isnt in color, for some reason i thought it was. today i read an article about it and saw it is in 16 grey.

I would suggest that if you want to run Windows, buy a notebook, not a WinCE device. A Palm-based device can do pretty much anything a WinCE device can do (and vice-versa). The m505's screen is not as bright as the Clie's or the Compaq iPaq. I would suggest that you go to your local Best Buy (or whatever store) and compare the displays side-by-side. I have an m505 and I'm very happy with it, the only thing I wish was different is that the screen was a little brighter. In dim light (with the backlight on) the colors are outstanding, but in bright light the colors appear somewhat washed out. The Sony is more expensive ($499) than the m505, but you'll need to make the determination if you need the included mp3 player. The HandEra 330, as TommyBoomfiger mentioned, has CF expansion as well, which currently has more peripherals than the Palm's SD slot, but it does not come in color. Oh, and I'm Palm-biased, in case you were wondering :)
