ok.. so... this is the run down of what I did with in the last 2 days on the system...

yesterday I installed the IE 5.5 upgrade.... earlier today I installed some casino software....

i turn the computer off at 3:00 pm to go to class.....

and I got home at 10 pm.... turn on the sucker... and I find that I can't click and drag with the mouse.....

so.. i go to a web page.. and some fields don't load....

then... i try to press CTRL-C to copy.. nothing... CTRL-X & CTRL-V are also not working in more programs....

I can't rick-click copy either in the same proggies the CTRL functions aren't working at...

I open outlook express... and I try to reply to someone.. I get the error 'an error occurred... not enough memory'

i have 256 megs of ram... and right clicking on MY COMPUTER shows:
AMD Duron Processor
AT/AT COMPATIBLE
261,616 KB RAM

so.. i decide to reinstall WIN 2k... same problems.. get an EXPLORER.EXE crash right after the installation...

so.. i upgrade to IE 6.0 BETA... and still the same problem..
delete some suspicious things from WIN.INI & SYSTEM.INI .... remove the ONLY thing in RUN from regedit, some synchronizing thing..

and I find a 108 KB file in my startup tab.... some dhxxxexe.exe forgot the file name...

i decide to run NAV for win 2k... doesn't find a damn thing.. i try to run live update to get a new virus definition.. and that doesn't work...

i booted the machine up @ WIN ME... mouse works great.. CTRL functions work great...

any ideas?

what the hell is wrong with this POS!!

My first suspect would be the casino software, did you uninstall it? For some reason I just don't trust someone who wants to provide a casino online. To many ways for them to cheat. THere is no way to stop them from installing spyware or malicious code on your pc.
Have you installed all the current security updates from M$?

It wasn't the software because that was the first thing I uninstalled. Luckily it came with an unistal link, instead of having to go through ADD/REMOVE which wasn't working...

so... i booted from a WIN ME boot disk, fdisked the damn drive... and tried to reinstall a fresh copy of WIN2K with NTSF this time.. instead of FAT 32..

i swear... i was up until 4 am last night trying to install this sh*t...... for some strange reason, it kept hangin right at the end...

so.. i decided to restart.. this time.. formatiing the 45 giger... so it took pretty much the whole night.. and so.. at the end when win 2K registers the stuff.. i had to continually move the mouse around so it wouldn't freeze...

Just because you uninstall something doesn't mean that it is all gone. When I noticed all the spyware I got with Imesh I had to remove several programs to get them all gone. I removed everything that I didn't recognize and ended up having to reinstall a couple of programs. I think it's time for me to start wiping systems anyway.

doesn't matter...

cause now after an FDISK and format.. and a conversion to NTSF

i think I am having CPU problems..

the OS just stalls...

and i think the CPU is over heating.. yet I am not overclocking...

*****
found out it isn't the CPU..
the CPU started @ 26 degress... and it froze at 31 degrees

It sounds like there's a piece of hardware it doesn't like. Check to make sure all of your components are on the Windows 2000 Hardware Compatibility List (http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/default.asp). Aside from a Duron and 256MB, what's in that thing? You may need to feed it some drivers during installation. Also, remove non-essential components (soundcard, NIC) and see if it installs that way.
