i'm not to familiar with irqs so i need some help. i just bought a mpeg decoder card and cant install it because when i do it says that i am sharing an irq. is there a way to move the irq so that i can use the pci slot?

ok, there are several ways you can go about this.

1. just swap your cards on your motherboard and play around with it until you see there are no more irq conflicts.
2. go into your bios and assign them enable/disable/auto
3. go into "my computer" on your desktop then click on the tab "device manager" then click "properties" to see your irq's. Then after that just disable whatever is conflicting.

Anyways just pick your choice. I personally just like swapping stuff around but it may take time.

I have found that checking the IRQ's in the device manager and then manipulating them for which ever device is giving you trouble is easier. You may have to do a couple reboots, including one or more in safe mode, but I find that to be easier than taking cards in and out.

...turn PNP OS to "NO" and give the slot that the MPEG card is in an IRQ that is not being used by another device...

Do NOT use:
12-your PS2port
14-your primary IDE
15-your secondary IDE
7-your printer port (unless your don't use this port-than give it this IRQ and disable the port)

Also, do NOT put the card near the AGP slot as it will most likely share with the AGP card. And avoid putting it in the last two PCI slots as it will most likey share with the USB.

The best place for moody PCI cards is the 2nd or 3rd PCI slot.
