View Full Version : S: My Stupidity

Please don't laugh....my friends have done that enough already.

A few days ago I was driving down the road and suddenly heard something hit my car. I looked into my passenger sideview mirror, but it wasn't there. I look in my review mirror and see a big trashcan that had just ripped my sideview mirror off. I turned around and picked up my mirror and the garbage can, then quickly got back in my car and drove away. I took my '00 Civic Si to a body shop, and found out that it is going to cost me $230 dollars......just because some idiot trash dude left the can sticking out in the road, and my idiotic self wasn't paying enough attention to what I was doing.

The only good thing about the matter is that I am driving a '01 Corvette while my boss is in Vegas. So I don't have to look like an idiot in a car with no sideview mirror. Luckily, I didn't do it in his car (I picked his car up later the same day, and hid the fact that I obviously don't deserve to drive such an amazing machine as the '01 Corvette).

Ok, I guess you can laugh now.

Damn that was cold, but really funny Passwird

Actually, we are doing quite well. Nothing has really changed. If anything, things have gotten better.

You know, some cars (like mine) don't even come with a passenger sideview mirror, so I don't think it would look too stupid driving without one.

It's just an accident, they happen. No one or any serious property was hurt. No big deal. Think of it as a warning to pay more attention. A fairly cheap lesson at that. A few hundred bucks isn't that bad.

Now if you took the trash can into the shop for repairs, that would be stupid. I would laugh at that.

Sounds like "someone" gots alot of money burning their pockets huh?

Speaking from the "broke" side of the G|A community, a few hundred bucks can mean the difference between having a "comfortable month" and just barely makin' it...

It's not easy coming up with two or three hundred bucks with no notice. It's a lot harder coming up with 2K for bail, 1500 to 5000 for an attorney, who knows how much in court costs and another 5K in fines. Plus costs in increased insurance. This is what happes when you make a mistake and someone else is harmed, or you leave the scene, or alcohol is involved. Compared with these things it's cheap.

BTW: I've never had these problems, I hear them 2nd hand from friends.

I realize it could have been much worse.....right after it happened I told myself that I was lucky that it wasn't a kid or something. I am very thankful, because I would never be able to get over something like that. Anyway, the moral of the story is that we all need to remember to pay attention when behind the wheel. It is easy to forget how fast you ruin someone's life.
