Hello computer wizards!
I have a Compaq Presario 1275 with 366 AMD K6 Processor and 160 Meg of RAM (I just upgraded), but it is too slow! How can I make my computer run faster? I have already tried reinstalling windows and all of my programs. Any suggestions? Tricks? Programs I can run? I would really appreciate your help.
Thanks!

Get a new one, seriously. 366 isn't gonna do anything. I'd suggest getting an ibook. Yes its an apple, but who cares? Apple makes kick ass laptops. But if you wanna keep that piece of junk, I'd say at least replace the hard drive, if possible.
You can make that computer fly faster by throwing it off a cliff .... just make sure that there's a dump under it (we don't want to ruin the environment)

grasshopper, why are you telling him to replace the hard drive when he didn't even mention what kind he has in it?
also, why are you suggesting he replace a desktop computer with a laptop (i wont even go into the mac thing.)?
Drummund, that isn't a fast computer.
if it's running too slow for you you more likely then not need to buy a new computer.

dude, he's talking about the laptop, look at the thread heading. As for macs, don't get into it cause they'll totally destroy anything you might come up with.

Shame on all of you for telling him to get rid of his laptop. I had a Intel 486 DX4 100 running Win98 with 24mb ram pretty decent
First off Drummund do not use anything higher than Windows98 SE as an OS. Personally I would use Win95 OEM 2.5 (kinda hard to find, it was version C) it has the lowest use of resources.
Second, you have a decent amount of RAM in your PC, if your not using the laptop for anything major, change your virtual memory settings. You might even have enough ram to disable virtual memory, but I would set it at 128mb if I were you.
Third, dont have **** running in the background. Disable your antivirus software. Enable it only when you need it.

cruel, how did u pull that off, Win98 needs 32MB. If it detects less it wont install.
