I'm trying to get an external CD-RW drive so I can burn CD's off my laptop. Since it's on my laptop it needs to have a USB interface. Iomega makes a Zip series CD-RW drive for about $300 and Sony has a Spressa series external CD-RW w/ the USB interface for a little over $300. If anyone can find better deals on these or suggest another brand or drive please let me know.
- Thanks

Well I'm not very sure on pricing since I haven't looked yet but, the Sony Spressa USB Plus and HP CD-Writer Plus 8200e have both gotten good reviews. The Spressa uses a little more of the cpu (about 80% depending on computer) but has reliable burns and comes with good audio software. The HP also does perform reliably and has slightly faster reads (not writes) than the Sony, only problem is that the HP writes slower than the Sony even though both are 4x writes. I guess I would go with the sony personally, that is until plextor comes out with an external, if they don't have one out yet.

Okay these are the best prices I've found so far:
Sony spressa crx100e/x2: $189
at: http://www.compgeeks.com/cgi-bin/details.asp?cat=MultiMedia&sku=205-1323

HP 8200e: $225.00
at: http://www.compuplus.com/ets/showpage.cgi?template=/_templates/xproduct.html&producttable=/_private/1product.txt&productkey=339&selectfield=category&selectvalue=CDR/CDRW&selecttype (it says 251, but if you add it to your cart it'll come up 225, its some new price change I guess)

Also if you would rather have a new sony drive instead of the refurbished the same place has it for $205 link: http://www.compuplus.com/ets/showpage.cgi?template=/_templates/xproduct.html&producttable=/_private/1product.txt&productkey=437&selectfield=category&selectvalue=CDR/CDRW&selecttype Hope this helps you some. Personally, again, I would go with the Sony, although HP's are reliable, the Sony was tested to be faster in writting.

Thanks for the cheap prices. Knowing the ******* Raj, he will probably spend 300 at the student store because he is afraid of the internet. He is so scared, he s afraid to sign up for anything. So he always uses [email protected] to sign up for porn and spam lists. I hope you all decide to do the same. And remember, I am the ayatollah of rock and rollah

Go to onvia.com.
They have both HP and Sony Spressa with competive price.
I think there still is $25 coupon over $200.
