I'm going dual monitor, and want a good 3d card on my agp slot and a good 2d slot for my pci card..
wondering if you guys have any suggestions on which cards I should go for.
Because I would like good 3d, I'm thinking going geforce 2 gts over the radeon (which from what I hear just doesn't measure up 2 nvidia in 3d).any comments???
if there are enough people recommending the ati, I might just go for a dual monitor setup.
For my pci card, I just need good 2d... I was thinking (from my old days going) just dropping 20-30 bucks and going matrox g200 =). any better/good cards that are 50bucks or less?
thanx in advance.

The Radeon is faster than the Geforce *2*'s, about on par with an Ultra...and that's before you overclock it. Plus, it has most of the DirectX8 features that all other cards made before it lack.
For speed: Get the GF3, Radeon (not VE), Kyro, then GF2.
For 2D looks: Anything will do, but Matrox has had the best 2D for some time, but they haven't released a good card in over two years, so ATI took that away from them with the Radeon. Keep in mind the refresh/capabilities of your monitor, and check the specs of any card you want to buy. If you have a 21" monitor, make sure the card supports its maximum refresh and resolution, and you should be fine.
A GeForce GTS will be slightly faster than a Radeon for most games. A Radeon is DirectX 8 compatible not compliant. Voodoo 5's and GeForce's are DirectX 8 compatible also. All that means is the videocard will work under DirectX 8. The Radeon has quasi DirectX 8 features that won't be used much.
Most people who have done comparisons between a Radeon and GeForce 2 have found the Radeon to have a better image quality. The colors are deeper and richer. The Radeon is a more feature rich videocard than the GeForce 2. The Radeon has the best dvd decoding of all videocards. The Radeons Direct 3d performance under Win2k needs work though.
2D: Matrox videocards have the best 2d followed closely by the Radeon.
Speed: GeForce 3
GeForce 2 Ultra
GeForce 2 Pro
GeForce 2 GTS
Radeon
Kyro 2
A Radeon VE has dualhead features (http://www.ati.com/na/pages/products/pc/radeon_ve/index.html) but it is not a good gaming card.
I consider the 64 meg DDR Radeon Vivo, 64 meg GeForce 2 Pro and Kyro 2 to be the best bang for the buck videocards available.
Other comments: Stay away from S3 Savage cards. They weren't called goat blowers for no reason. http://sbp777777.homestead.com/files/harhar.gif
My recommendations:
good 3D AGP card: 64 meg GeForce 2 Pro or 64 meg DDR Radeon Vivo.
If they cost too much then: 32 meg GeForce 2 GTS, 32 meg DDR Radeon or Kyro 2.
good 2D pci card: Matrox g200
