It's an older version. RH6.2 is out.

Thank you Captain Obvious. Does that mean 6.1 is useless?

no, redhat 6.1 is perfectly fine for anyone looking to get into linux. although, if you are a total newbie to the linux world, i very strongly recommend mandrake 7.0. check out www.lsl.com (http://www.lsl.com.). they usually have some freebies every now and then. all you pay is shipping. i got mandrake 7.0 and suse linux 6.2 for free a few months ago. although you can download any linux distribution for free, it is nice to have all of the files on one disk. also, many disks that you purchase come with other bonus applications, like star office, word perfect, etc.

it wasn't a question, more of a sarcastice remark.. but... word to your excellent, informative reply anyhow. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

No it's not "useless". You can probably use another coaster for free after rebate.

What's the point? You can download the latest 6.2 ISO image from redhat.com and burn it yourself for whopping 30 cents (cost of a CDR blank). That's what I do for every Redhat release. Why would you want to get an older version for $30 and then pray that the USPS doesn't lose your rebate form and that Redhat does honor it.

But then you may enjoy waiting 8 weeks for your precious rebate check.

Might take someone 8 weeks to download the ISO on a dial-up modem. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

whatever dude. someone woke up cranky this morning. not everyone has DSL or cable running to their house, and last time I checked my computer at work doesn't have a CD-R drive. If you want to wait your "precious" 9 weeks downloading it from redhat over a 28.8 connection you can. i'll get it here faster by ordering it on cd. plus, i'll have a package to open. maybe it will have bubble wrap.. mmmm.. and then, in 8 "precious" weeks after i forget about the money i paid for it i'll get a nice check in the mail too, making my day again. maybe i can get them to send the rebate check in bubble wrap too. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
