Hey guys ...

I'm tryin to set up a counter strike server on my machine at home ...

this machine is sitting behind a dsl router ..

now i get a server running and I can connect to it just fine from within my network ... but i think people outside are having trouble connecting ...

do any of y'all have any experience with setting up a server like that ?
do i have to open up some ports on my firewall ?
would any of y'all that play cs like to try connecting to it ?

Thanks

nto sure about the SMC, but the Linksys will make anyone connecting drop for some reason after a min or two...

do you have port forwarding set up right, and or is the server in the DMZ of the router? is it setup as a router, or as a gateway?

I guess im not too good at setting up router terminology ..

I didnt mess with setting mine up much ...
just sorta plugged it in and it worked kinda deal ..

I'm pretty sure its setup as a gateway tho ...

and I was thinkin of tryin to put my cstrike server in the dmz but was wondering what the cons of putting a machine out on the dmz would be ...
i mean ... that would basically neutralize any benefit of even having a firewall correct ?

First of all update your firmware. Then what you can do is go to the Virtual Sever settings and add your CS port at the internal IP address of your CS server. For example my CS server port is 27015 (default) and my computer is assigned the IP address of 192.168.123.100 . Have fun while it lasts, cause it gets really annoying running a server.
