View Full Version : What boxes are you running?
I'm running four rigs right now -
Pentium Pro 180/96mb/20Gb/Win98SE on a Tyan S1672 mobo. I used a Promise ISA BIOS update card to see larger hard drives - slows down the POST, but otherwise works as advertised. This is my spare break/fix box and FTP server, and I also play with Linux occasionally.
PII-350/192mb/40Gb/Win2k on an Abit WB6 - integrated sound and video - this is my primary break/fix box. (I'm doing the home study MCSE thang)
Celeron 300a @ 450 384mb/30Gb/Win2k on an Abit BX6-r2. This is my primary machine, used as an internet terminal, office box, and CD burning with my Plextor 12x10x32. I also use a spare drive with Win2k Advanced Server for the MCSE stuff. One nice thing about this box is that I have a really large heatsink on the CPU, and I can actually run it without a fan - helps to quiet things down.
Duron 700 @ 840 256mb/30Gb/Win98SE on an Asus A7V. This is my gaming rig - I used a Radeon 32 LE and did the BIOS flash/registry hack to make it a full Radeon 32DDR. Works great, though as is typical with Radeon the 2D performance could be better. Since this is my fastest box, I also use it for CD ripping chores.
I also have a Linksys BEFSR11 router and 100bT EZXS55W 5-port switch. Oh, and Verizon DSL to feed the router.
Future plans: I'm going to rebuild the the Celery box and give it to my bro at the end of the year - I'll re-do my Duron will replace it. I'll also build a new gaming box - something 1.4GHz or above.

750 Athlon OC'd to 850 something, on one fan no less! hahaha! On a Asus K7M (I think) 128 SDRAM PC133, 15GB, random Nvidia TnT2 card, Win98se with a lovely alternative shell over it, and nothing else special. Its my main computer, and I'll definately do away with it in a month.
700 Duron on Asus A7V, 64 SDRAM, 8 meg video card (also random), 15 GB, my "throw crap in and hope it works just in case my other computer doesn't work" computer. Also called my little brother's computer.
Notice that I don't have intel. They annoy me. Very much. AMD! And if I could I'd change them to both to linux/mac os boxes, if M$ wasn't so greedy and didn't allow companies to support other OSes

not bad for a senior in high school, when I was a senior in high school I didn't even have a computer. Couldn't afford a computer my Jeep and my Camero took all my excess cash in gas. I made up for it though.

Bah! You think thats bad...in my day, I could only walk to school every third day. Me and my two brothers only had 1 pair of shoes, so only one could wear em, and he had to carry the two others.....up hill...both ways....through tunnels in the snow, cause the snow drifts were so high.

I had to ride in the back seat of my Mom's car because my sister always stole shotgun. The car only had CLOTH SEATS!!! The windows only rolled down halfway, and I never got the radio station that I wanted =(. It was a LONG 10 minute drive, and I never got to hear the end of my favorite songs!
