Denon non-Authorized Dealers --> no warranty??

I'm in the process of searching to find the perfect receiver. After a couple of Leon's recommendations I looked into Denon receivers a bit. I ran across many stores that sell Denon products on the internet. Mostly the real bargains are found from stores that aren't authorized dealers. And the authorized dealers usually have products priced about $50-$100 higher.

Denon states that "if bought from a non-authorized dealer the product's warranty may be void." hmmm, "MAY be void." What a vague way of putting it. Has anybody had experieince with this?? How strict are they at "voiding" your warranty in the case it was bought from the wrong guy. Do you think it's worth spending $50-$100 more to avoid a "possibly" void warranty?

There is no warranty if its not from authorized dealers, but in some states this is of questionable legality. Thus depending on the size of the company and their confidence in their legal staff they may or may not attempt to enforce this policy. Denon is one of the companies who does enforce it. I have witnessed this experience (to my glee) happen to a schmuck who bought the receiver online from an unauthorized vendor after using me to learn and shop the product. The arse came in and told me it wasnt working. I checked the receiver (AVR2801) and found that it was in fact defective. He then had the audacity to try to get me to switch it for him, I laughed (ok maybe I didnt quite laugh) and told him to see what (if anything) Denon would do for him. He told me that he tried that first, and they refused to help him since he couldnt prove that he had bought it at an authorized dealer. He then tried to contact the place where he bought it, found them completely uncooperative, and ended up having to pay for it to be repaired. (I know the aftermath because he came in to buy cables after the fact and I asked him what happened.)
