The moving to turkey part isn't the worst of it actually. The worst part is that I wont have my computer for probably a month or two, plus I have to part with my super speedy cable modem. =o( Who knows what kind of internet connection over there? I'll probably end up connecting to some BBS at 2400baud again.
<*sigh> And now what am I going to do without my daily deals at got|apex? probably save money.. LoL
I'm going to Izmir. Has anyone here ever been to turkey?

Ain't nothing wrong with Red Label if you're a college kid. Speaking of which, I've got a bottle waiting for me at home. ;)

Perhaps you could try to smuggle out some drugs and then get caught and make a book and movie out of it.
Of course, you will have to suffer for many years in a Turkish prison, but we all have to suffer for our art.
I met Billy Hayes (from Midnight Express) once in Venice and he was cool

I went to Turkey (Incirlik) for a three month TDY during the months of March - June. I was a system administrator for their SUN Workstations. My bandwidth here (cable modem) was a lot more than all three of their networks combined. I hope you can get your fill of fast network access before you go, because you're not going to get it there. I feel for you, I could never go back to using a modem.
On the other side, if you like jewelry, gold and silver is incredibly cheap there. You pay by weight, not for the workmanship. For example I found twelve band gold puzzle rings for $180 there that sell for around $1200 here. I bought over $2000 worth of jewelry, shipping most of it back (insured). I carried over $500 back myself when I flew back. I didn't sell any jewelry. I kept some for myself, gave some to relatives, and bought for friends.
You may not have the computer access that you're used to, but there are other things to do there. I would definitely travel more if I could go back there again. My job had me working hours that left me not able to travel. Having a pager (and clueless users) sucks.
