View Full Version : No POST!!! Asus A7M266/AMD 1333

Okay this is my last ditch effort. I have purchased an Enermax A1QX-6 ATX Case
Enermax EG465P-VE-FC 431W Power supply
Asus A7M266 Mobo
AMD TB 1333-266 MHz CPU
Crucial Micron 2-128 MB DDR
Gainward MX-400 GeForce2 VidCard

I assembled the computer, with the power supply off, but plugged in, using a wrist strap. The computer would not POST. This is my second Mobo, the third CPU and who knows how many different pieces of DDR RAM. I get no POST at all. When I remove the VidCard, I do get a long beep followed by 3 short beeps, but the computer will not POST, and has not POSTed. I have assembled two other computers before this and have had no problems. Has anyone ever had any misfortunes with this case. Could the case be causing my CPU and memory to be fried somehow? The only thing I can think of that I have done differently, than in the past was use three non-brass case attachments (since the computer case came with what looked like steel Mobo posts for the attachments furthest from the back) and used small washers along with the Mobo screws. That's it.

Any help will be greatly apprectiated!!!

Have you tried a different power supply? Not just a replacement but a totally different PS? You have a VERY nice one indeed, but I know some high end Enermax's had problems with 1.3GHz+ Athlons. Yours may happen to be one of them. If you have even a cheap 250W PS lying around somewhere, it may be be worth a shot.

Have you tried a different video card? 1 long and 3 short beeps means it can't find a video card, so that's to be expected when you remove the card.

If you're using washers and different screws, make sure the screws aren't making contact with any motherboard traces. Closing circuits that aren't supposed to be closed isn't good news.

I'd say just look to whatever has been constant throught your problems. If its the same PS, check the PS. Same video card, check the video card.

I've never seen a case short anything out by itself. If you're really concerned, you can assemble the motherboard on a table without a case. :)

Mezpin,

I switched PS's and got the computer to give me continuous looping beeps. DDR Ram was switched out, resulting in one long beep followed by three short beeps. I replaced the video card with a different one and got the computer to post. However, after about three posts, I removed the vid card and replaced it with the first one - No POST. When I put the old one back in no POST. The good card still POSTed in a different computer. Is it possible that the mobo was damaged by the PS so that it is now having problems with the AGP port.

Thanks for your help with the PS. I will return the PS and hopefully exchange it for a smaller one. Who would have thought it would be the PS, and why would the PS have issues with the AMD 1333+.

does your agp card support 2x or 4x agp? that could be the problem there. you might have to set the jumper on the mobo to support either 2x or 4x for your card. hope that helps...
