Well, I am sure that many of you can sympathize with this. I have spent the last three months on my glutimus maximus studying for the bar exam and had absolutely no physical activity. Now I was not completely oblivious to the fact that I was bulking up, but as I didnt have time to work out what could I do. I figured that I would just get back to my old fighting weight after the exam. But I have slowly been trying to get back into working out, and it just occurred to me how badly I let myself go. Now I have to work it all off and then some just so I can get back into my clothes comfortably. (Some still fits others look like they belong to someone else) plus I have to get a job. This is not going to be fun, but a mans got to do what a mans got to do.

the only problem with taking off weight is that if you dont do it right or try to do it fast you end up losing a lot of muscle.

Well... which is worse? Having been in shape, or never at all? :heh:

Try spinning. I had this girlfriend that was an instructor, and while she (bizarrely enough) had quite a good sized trunk in which much junk was stored, her class were all ripped. It melts the pounds pretty quick, and I do have to say her arse, while large, was solid as a rock. Too bad she was a goddamn psycho, because she was a bloody wolverine in the sack.

I've had the very same problem as you, except there's no exam after which I'm supposed to get in shape after. Working long hours will do that to you in any profession. My weight's been vacillating by about 5-10 pounds, depending on my level of conditioning. I recently bruised my heel, and there's little besides a broken toe that halts a "I'm going to whip my ass into shape" regime than that. So I've begun to baloon (relatively speaking) back up again.

Yeah I had a friend that runs all the time but was still pudgy. Then he quit all drinking beer for 30 days to train for a 10K and he completely lost his gut (must have been like 20 lbs).

Right after his race he started slamming beers and 30 days later he was right back in old form :-)

Alcoholic beverages are really nothing but carbs. Unburned carbs get stored as fat.

I went from exercising everyday to rarely exercising when I was a freshman in college. I kept drinking though until I woke up one morning and realized I was beginning to develop a place to rest my beer. I quit drinking after that.

when i had my kid i fell into the trap of not working out to spend more time at home. for two years i was ten to twelve pounds heavier than i had ever been. this month i got off my ass and dropped ten pounds, and now all my clothes are falling off my ass. i may feel better about myself, but i look like a jackass walking around pulling up my pants all the time.

college did it to me...

i was never ripped or buff or anything, but always in good shape...

then i started eating crappy food and drinking all the time...got worse when i turned 21.

they say you gain 15lbs as a freshman..well i went in weighing about 160..6 years later, i'm trying to keep it below 200.

but i still smoke, still drink, i'm eating a bag of chips now...guess i'm just lazy.

how do all of y'all buff ones get motivated to do it? i'll work out for a week or two then quit..i just can't seem to get rollin.

all i really gotta do to keep my weight relatively stable is to not eat past 5 pm and drink lots of water. that pretty much helps me keep my stomach flat, which is all i gotta worry about.

I think that's the single hardest part of dieting. I find it even harder than working out consistently. But eating late at night is mostly habitual/psychological. When you eat late often, you'll find yourself feeling extremely hungry every night. But once you go through the pure torture of not eating late for a while, your body seems to get used to it and then you feel less hungry during late hours. Then you know you're losing weight.
